Thank you to Start Here Okanagan for featuring us on the #lovelocalpenticton blog! We are volunteers, and cancer survivors, helping those dealing with hair loss from chemo look and feel better. Thanks to the South Okanagan Women in Need Society for giving us a new home, and Munday Media & Design for providing brochures. Message us here on Facebook if we can help you, or if you would like to make a donation.... Our coordinator, Evelyn Markin, is a breast cancer survivor. Her daughter Allison M Markin (aka All She Wrote) is an ovarian cancer survivor, and has set up a PayPal link if you would like to make a cash donation: https://paypal.me/pools/c/8sjTXyuvpm
Thanks to Munday Media & Design for donating these new rack cards to us!
The first of July and a new beginning for the Mirror Image Room in our new location in the Administration Building of SOWINS at 1027 Westminster W. in Penticton. As soon as we are unpacked and go through the protocol for COVID 19 safety procedures, we will start seeing clients again. For more information email Evelyn at [email protected]. Thank you.
The Mirror Image Room has been closed during the COVID19 breakout. We continue to monitor events in order to be able to open safely. Unfortunately we need to be close to clients much like hairdressers, therefore we need to be extra careful as people’s immune systems are very fragile, including those of the volunteers who are also immune compromised due to previous cancer treatments. Also we are going to be moving to a new location as our present location has been rented out. Many thanks to Dr. James Cooper and his generosity over the past years. We have had a great location and the space served us very well. In the next few days there will be a posting regarding the new location as well as an update as to when we will start seeing clients again. Thank you for your patience.
As coordinator of the Mirror Image Room, I am looking for help from our community and recently wrote the following to our newspapers and am now hoping that perhaps someone on Facebook has a suggestion or offer: In Penticton we have been extremely fortunate to have a unique, essential service related to cancer and women’s health beginning several years ago when the Canadian Cancer Society still had an office here. Once it closed, the Mirror Image Room, a place where women goi...ng through hair loss due to cancer, could go to obtain a measure of support, relief and dignity by getting a wig and head wear, free of charge. Thanks to Dr. James Cooper, we were able to move into his chiropractic office building on Skaha Lake Road, into a great room, free of charge for the past few years. His generosity has allowed us to continue to provide this service, without a cost to us, since everything we do and provide, is done through donations by groups such as Survivorship, clients and generous people of the area. Now, unfortunately, Dr. Cooper has a paying client for the room and we must find a new home in order to provide this essential health service. Since it is a health issue, the hospital was approached earlier this year to request a room, possibly in the part of the building going through renovation. Apparently there is no space available and we were offered a change room at the back of the Gift Shop! Surely we can do better. Therefore we are appealing to business owners, landlords, service providers, medical offices, or anyone, to help us secure a place for the Mirror Image Room to be able to carry on our most valuable and very much appreciated fittings for ladies experiencing a traumatic time in their journey to wellness because of cancer. If you are able to help or have a suggestion, please contact me at [email protected] or call 250-493-6150. Your help is needed and appreciated. Thank you.
If you are going through hair loss due to chemotherapy, we can help by providing head coverings or a wig, free of charge. Call to set up an appointment.
Can you sew turbans? Our supply is getting low and we need someone to sew us some new ones. Send a message.
Thank you Munday Media & Design for generously donating your time to create these brochures for us!
Thank you to all who responded to the letter in the paper and have donated fabric, money and also returned or donated wigs. This allows the Mirror Image Room to help many more people. With appreciation from our volunteers.
Thank you for helping us out!
