Congratulations to our staff, volunteers and physicians! You are the reason Misericordia has been selected as an employer of choice! http://publications.winnipegfreepress.com/i/1311331-2021/0
Sharing another #MHCAngelSquad story! #Repost @mhcfoundation with @make_repost ... To say that Misericordia Health Centre’s Board Chair has a booming voice would be an understatement. And that deep voice has been coaxing motorists to pull into the MHC Foundation’s Angel Squad drive thru for the past 15 years. I have a method to engage people, said Michael Radcliffe. While standing on the side of the road I look them straight in the eye and wave them in with a regular patter of ‘Step right up! Help us help you! Turn right in here!’ If anyone has seen Michael in Angel Squad action, they can understand why drivers feel compelled to pull into the Sherbrook loop and donate! Angel Squad is a chance to do good, and feel good, explained Michael. The event really represents the Sisters of Misericordia: they were angels of mercy coming to Winnipeg to care for the vulnerable. Besides being born at Misericordia, Michael has deep connections with the health centre: he began volunteering on the Foundation board in 2005. In 2012, the Archbishop of Winnipeg asked Michael to join the Misericordia Health Centre board. No one says no to the Archbishop, laughed Michael. Michael enjoys participating in Angel Squad annually and is disappointed he won’t get a chance to don a gown, wings and halo this year. I love wearing the costume, he said. Although it’s ironic as I’m no angel. $, - . . ! Read more Angel Squad stories at misericordiafoundation.com/angelsquadstories #MHCAngelSquad #MHCFoundation #MHCfamily See more

The Misericordia Family in Winnipeg is mourning the passing of Sister Adrienne Courchesne. Sister Adrienne was the last surviving Misericordia Sister who had served in Winnipeg: she worked at Villa Rosa for 17 years before retiring to live in the nun’s suite at Misericordia Place before returning to the Motherhouse in Montreal in 1994. Sister Adrienne was interviewed for the www.sisterslegacy.ca project in 2015. She recounted many happy memories from her time at Villa Ro...sa, especially when toddlers came running to her for a hug. I saw a lot of changes over the years at Villa Rosa. I’m pleased mothers can now give birth and return to Villa Rosa so they can continue going to school awhile caring for their babies, eventually moving to the post-natal house. Our favourite Sister Adrienne quote? I certainly didn’t ever picture myself growing up and doing pregnancy exercises wearing a habit with a veil! Sister Adrienne’s spirit and memories will live on at Misericordia Health Centre as we continue to live her Mission.
Today’s Angel Squad story, featuring @mcneil_joanne! #repost @mhcfoundation with @make_repost In honour of the 25th Anniversary of Angel Squad, we’re sharing stories in the 25 days leading up to the 2020 Angel Squad! ... - Jo-Anne McNeil has many happy memories of participating in the MHC Foundation’s Angel Squad over the years. It would be in the dead of winter, early morning, cold and great! Just great! laughed Jo-Anne, It was such a warm feeling out with staff from all across the health centre. Jo-Anne worked at Misericordia for 32 years, starting in the kitchen and ending her career as executive assistant to the President and CEO. Jo-Anne retired in 2012, but of course still volunteers at MHC. You’re always part of the Misericordia Family, said Jo-Anne, leafing through the Misericordia Heritage Collection archives to search for past Angel Squad photos. Angel Squad was so much fun! she recalled, Giving out coffee, standing on the bridge waving, cars honking, collecting donations I always participated. The people driving over the bridge would smile and wave back. I think they enjoyed it as much as we did. We all spent the rest of the day trying to get warm but it didn’t matter. It was so worth it! It was great to see so many staff, volunteers and community dignitaries come out to help support our Foundation and those in need. ’ $, - . . !
