Jagged Rock Vineyard, surrounded by steep rocky cliffs at 1,400 feet elevation, is a remarkable spot. Cover cropping refers to crop planting between the rows of vines, in order to improve the management of the vineyard. Widely found throughout our estate vineyards are cover crops of clover, a nitrogen-fixing plant that works to return the nitrogen from the air back to soils, a vital process that increases farmland fertility. Cover cropping clover, and other nutrient powerhouses like barley and oats, is a perfect example of sustainable farming practices used to re-energize exhausted soils and create rich biodiversity.

The origins of the world's most famous red wine grape, Cabernet Sauvignon, for long remained shrouded in mystery but all was revealed in 1997 thanks to researchers at the University of California. By utilizing new DNA profiling technology, they showed beyond all reasonable doubt that Cabernet Sauvignon’s parents are none other than Cabernet Franc and the white wine grape Sauvignon Blanc. Our team of viticulturist's are happy to announce the return of the American Kestrel population to the nesting boxes located in our estate vineyards in Oliver and Osoyoos. 10 eggs last year resulted in 9 successful fledglings; currently, there are 19 eggs across four boxes. This example of wildlife conservation is yet another testament to the positive impacts that organic and sustainable farming practices are having throughout the Okanagan Valley.
