With the provincial government's announcement of pools being permitted to reopen June 1 as part of Restoring Phase 2, the MMAC board has reached out to Swim Manitoba and the City of Winnipeg regarding - an ETA on when we may be able to return to Pan Am to resume our practices and submit our booking requests. - a request for any information they're able to provide us with regarding any new requirements that may come into place based on keeping our community safe in this "new w...orld". The board will continue to strive to keep MMAC membership as up-to-date as possible regarding return to practices. For information on Phase 2 visit https://www.gov.mb.ca/covid19/restoring/phase-two.html For information on the city's response visit https://winnipeg.ca/emergWeb/covid-19/

Volunteers Needed As you may be aware, MMAC is managed by a volunteer board of directors. Our board does its best to provide the services our membership wants. These range from pool space & coaching, to social functions, competition opportunities and ensuring our voice is heard on the provincial & national level. The following positions are currently vacant for the 2020/21 season and we encourage anyone who is interested...even if it's just a passing interest...to email [email protected]. The goal is to have the positions filled for nomination and voting in at the 2019/20 AGM. Click the link below the position title to see a description of duties. Vice President https://drive.google.com/open Treasurer https://drive.google.com/open Should you have position specific questions, please email [email protected] to get in touch with the current position holder who can answer your questions. In addition to the above positions, we are always open to having new members-at-large. Some members-at-large, past & present, act solely as a representative of MMAC membership, others pull on their personal strengths to head up specific initiatives. Some of these initiatives have been social, meet management and webmaster. More information on board membership and management of the club can be found in MMAC's Constitution & By-Laws (click the link below to view). https://drive.google.com/open

2019/20 AGM Date & Method Due to the COVID-19 situation, the club Annual General Meeting (AGM) can't happen "as usual". The board is currently considering two options and is interested in your opinion as a club member. Please use the link below to communicate your preference. Option 1 - hold the meeting in June via Zoom Option 2 - postpone the meeting to September and hold in person... https://forms.gle/mSLuRSoZeBUTdK4L8 The poll will close one week from today and the board will decide how to proceed within a week after that.

Notice to membership regarding club fees in light of COVID-19 shut down. The board has passed a motion to provide members with a credit towards their 2020/21 swim registration in value equal to the unused portion of the 2019/20 membership due to COVID-19 shut down. For example - if the pool doesn't reopen until the fall, an individual who purchased an entire 2019/20 swim year at the start of the season would receive a credit towards their 2020/21 registration fee matching the... value of five & a half months of their 2019/20 membership (March 17 through August). Refunds will be available, minus the $50 non-refundable fee, upon request only. Requests must be made electronically to [email protected] prior to May 15, 2020. COVID-19 related refunds will not be issued for requests received after that date.

message from MMAC Board President: As you are already aware, MMAC practices are suspended indefinitely due to measures being taken to slow the spread of COVID-19 (Pan AM pool closure). The health and safety of our members is and always will be our top priority. No one has any idea how long this will last, making it very difficult for your MMAC board to discuss impacts to the club and its membership. We are asking for everyone's patience and understanding, as we continue t...o assess the impact of this situation through these uncertain times. Existing memberships will be placed in a hold and we will not be accepting new memberships. As the situation progresses, we will be better able to make decisions that work for our members and the club. In the mean time we encourage our members to: 1. Stay active. Although the swim club will be closed, exercise is essential to both your physical and mental well-being. We recommend you stay active. Exercise helps boost your immune system, relieve stress, and enhances your metabolic health. Ideas include use of any home exercise equipment available to you, go for a brisk walk or run, or take advantage of the final days of winter and go skiing or snowshoeing. 2. Connect with fellow members. MMAC is an important social outing for many of our members. At this time, take a moment to call or email friends to stay connected. 3. Connect with us on social media. If you are not already a member of the MMAC Facebook group, join now. We encourage members to stay connected via this group. Post how you are staying active. The board will also be posting updates on the situation here as well as continuing to communicate with you via email. Thank you for your continued support and engagement. We will continue to update you as more information becomes available In health, Doug Fyfe President, MMAC
