We welcome submissions in a wide variety of mediums, including but not limited to video, sound, painting, photography, sculpture, written texts, zines, prints, and performances. We are excited to announce Peer Critique Sessions beginning May 25th! They will be virtual sessions over zoom for artists to get feedback on their work from their peers and fellow artists. Each session will allow 5 artists to show one piece of art and receive feedback. The 2 hour sessions are free to attend and open to anyone interested. Jacquelin Heichert, "Mechanism of Choice", State of Flux Gallery, on display virtually on our website. The exhibition Mechanism of Choice, in the State of Flux Gallery at Modern Fuel Artist-Run Centre, examines and highlights different aspects of choice and decision making in everyday life through a collection of books, prints and sculptural works. The pieces within this exhibition work with game board pieces, machines and user guides; and focuses on the act of decision mak...ing where the answer or the decision is suspended at its climactic point to open up possibilities. In this way the works speak to a critical moment in time before a decision becomes resolved, the moment between a question and answer, and reveals the interior dialogues that surface when choosing or deciding. Jacquelin Heichert is a Toronto based artist specializing in print media, book works and sculpture. Heichert holds a BFA from York University, Ontario and a MFA from Concordia University, Quebec. Happy Saturday! Rafael MacDonald is the next artist to be featured in our #SideWaysSaturdays series. Rafael MacDonald (A.K.A Donald Martin Hernandez; Dos Caballos; El Scotiadoran) is a Canadian-El Salvadoran Digital Media Artist now residing in Kingston, Ontario with his partner. He grew up on the East Coast of Canada just outside of Halifax and proudly holds a Bachelor of Fine Arts from NSCAD University. He has a deep love for both sides of his heritage and often references ...this subtly and obviously throughout his work. He mostly works in film, performance, radio, ceramics, sculpture, but will work in any medium if the resulting visual suits the needs of his project.
