for this 50th #earthday we'll share one of the year-round rituals we enjoy at our #Clayoquot studio near #Tofino. We're very fortunate to have a couple of bentwood cedar boxes made by the skilled artist and carver Gordon Dick of @ahtsik at our little studio on the far west coast. Gordon trained under his uncle and grandfather, who, in turn, inherited this brilliant First Nation technology from the generations before them. Traditionally, these had many day-to-day uses includin...g food storage, cooking, clothing storage, and burial. We collect our nitrogenous vegetable material in one of these beautiful boxes. The western red cedar wood contains the smell wonderfully as the greens begin to decompose. We're also very fortunate to have a small forest in our care. We understand that coastal First Nations people would sweep and clear the forest floor near to their settlements as it made travel more comfortable and allowed better visibility through the trees, amongst other things. We've also noticed that it seems to make a healthier forest and increases bird activity - the Hemlock and Spruce needles alone providing adequate nutrition to the forest floor. We collect the carbon-rich brown leaves and windfallen branches into a large pile, then in thin layers, add the green vegetable material. In time we've been able to shape our thermophilic stack into a truncated cone. Although imperfect our composting pile loosely resembles, in shape and scale, the sand cone at Ginkaku-Ji in Kyoto, and truthfully, we treat it with the same reverence. @ Clayoquot, British Columbia See more

molo's manufacturing line for essential service products is operational. Our team is working under infection control guidelines to deliver our flexible partition wall and furniture systems to rapidly deployed medical clinics and shelters. softwall facilitates quick installation of multiple "rooms" within a larger space, with the potential to scale and adapt to custom floor plans without the need for tools or professional installation teams. The visual privacy and acoustic ab...sorption that softwall offers provide a quality environment for patients and staff. softwall packs flat to just 2" for efficient transport and storage, and expands up to linear 15' - integrated magnetic end panels allow multiple walls connect to extend this length. molo’s textile material, made from non-woven 100% polyethylene, is water-resistant, tear-resistant, and anti-static to repel dust. textile softwalls can easily wipe clean with a wet cloth and soap or disinfecting wipes. Other molo essential services products from our soft collection of folding furniture include bedside tables, seating, reception desks, and solutions for waiting areas.

In 2005 we worked with Harvard medical school on a seminar concerning emergency response and temporary treatment space. The question asked was how can we turn any open-plan building into a #temporary clinic where patients could be isolated from each other and also retain dignity through privacy? A hospital, in Turn, Italy is now using textile softwall to create privacy in its short stay unit.

We’ve been doing this all along. Can we be of assistance?

It was @icff_official 2008, in the depths of a recession, when we installed an early sketch of our cloud lighting and showed softseating for the second year. We’re looking forward to coming to the next show with similar energy!

Welcome, winter. Your late dawns and chilled breath make me lazy, but I love you nonetheless.
