Monkman's Poultry 05.06.2021

Update: -I finally have some fertility in the salmon Faverolles! I’m gonna put this weeks collection in to get a fertility rate, and we can go from there! We also have put the following into breeding pens: ... -gold laced Wyandottes -black and blue Ameraucana -Black/ Blue Wyandottes. -Isabel Ameraucana -silver wheaten Ameraucana. With that being said, I do still have 1 dozen calico bantam Cochins (sold) available to ship out. $90. Eggs will come from pen 1 and pen 2 for genetic variation. Pen 2 contains a black cockerel who is bred to APA standards to help with size and type in the calicos. Some of these chicks will come out solid black, and will need to be worked on to get back to pure calicos. SOLD.

Hatching Egg Update: Current eggs available: - 1 dozen Rhode Island reds ($70) -1 dozen bantam calico Cochins ($90) (these will be a mix from pens 1 and 2. Pen 1 is pure calico, pen 2 is 2 pairs of Caicos and 1 pair of black Cochins to improve size and type. From this pen you can get pure calico chicks, black x calico, and pure blacks). ... We are switching over some pens this week, so there won’t be as many options available for a couple weeks. We no longer have hatching eggs from: -Light Sussex -Blue wheaten Ameraucana -rose comb RIR The bantam black and lavender mottled Cochins are starting to lay a little more consistently now, so hoping to share some of those soon. I know many of you are waiting for the Salmon Faverolles. We had no fertility in our 4 year old male this year, so we swapped him out for two younger cockerels. We are hoping this helps. However, in the event it doesn’t, we will be discontinuing with our standard salmon Faverolles flock. They will be pulled from the breeding pen and culled off. I’m sorry for the delays and if this isn’t what you were hoping to hear, but decisions had to be made to get other breeds into the rotation.

The incredibly sad look I got as I took the truck to work this morning, and didn’t offer the dog a ride. I’m sorry Rocky, maybe when I get home. Take care of the birds for me! ....I think they were left in capable hands.

Well, I’m not too disappointed in this! Most, if not all the wheaten marans pullets are finally laying..... even in this cold! So most were frozen, and obviously one has broken and got the rest dirty, but the colour is nice and dark on most of them. So that’s a plus moving forward!

I have one girl who definitely isn’t letting me down. This colour is amazing!! My wheaten marans have taken me almost 7 years to get a flock established, but it was worth the wait! These birds are amazing

I’m loving these two cockerels and 2 pullets I kept back this year. Shaping up so well! Still have a bit of work to do to get rid of the rusty colour in the males, but they’ve come along way. They are large and wide and for that I’m thankful. Hopefully I can hatch more out next year!

Sometimes life gets busy, and a few details get neglected. I finally was able to clean out my feed room. It feels good to have it cleaned out and filled with feed.

Super happy with one of my wheaten marans pullets! She’s consistently laid this dark of an egg for two weeks now! #7 on the marans chart. Can’t wait to hatch from her
