BREAKING NEWS: Wiikwemkoong First Nation on Manitoulin says there is a COVID-19 case in the community AND has closed all of its schools to in-person learning until January 7th as a precaution. Wiikwemkoong First Nation on Manitoulin Island says that there was a positive COVID-19 test result confirmed in the community on December 12th. Public Health Sudbury & Districts also announced that there has been a positive COVID-19 case in the Manitoulin District. The First Nation said... in a press release that the person is self-isolating, and contact tracing for the individual occurred as soon as the positive result was made known. "All of those high-risk individuals that have been identified as a close contact to the individual who had tested positive have been notified and are instructed to self isolate to await testing, said a press release from the First Nation. If you have not received a call from our community health nurse, you are not considered a close contact. The press release from the First Nation said there has been a low-risk exposure within the community, and asked people to self-monitor for symptoms. We are reminding our citizens to continue to follow all health precautions and guidelines that have been set forth since the beginning of the pandemic, the press release said. It is important that we continue to support one another, but most importantly, be honest about where you have gone, who you have been in contact with, and if you are experiencing any symptoms. Each person’s responsibility and honesty will help prevent further spread of the virus into Wiikwemkoong. Due to the confirmed positive COVID-19 case, the First Nation has closed all of its schools and is supporting virtual learning only until January 7. Further information pertaining to online learning will become available as soon as possible, said the press release. All in-person community programming has also been cancelled until January 7. The community’s leader, Ogimaa Duke Peltier, announced the positive case in a Facebook post. Photo: Ogimaa (Chief) Duke Peltier announces closure of schools following positive case in the community. MOOSE SHOUTOUT: Pssstttt ... MRS. CLAUS LIVES IN OUR LOCAL AREA: Agnes Michon, alias Mrs. Santa Claus, has once again outdone herself. For the past 26 years through illness and good times, Agnes has made, recycled and bought over 10,000 toys for the Lions Toy Drive. And this year her efforts have continued. The Espanola Lions Club is eternally grateful to this incredible lady whose energy, determination and love for her fellow man (especially children) know no bounds. She represents the true spirit of Christmas. Agnes proudly shows her skill and love to a local Lions member Sue Cairns. Sue’s comment was, I can’t believe this! God bless you, Agnes Michon.

Derek Roy joined Moose Mornings with Graeme Thomson. Derek recently donated part of his kidney to save the life of a nine-month-old baby! It's a pretty amazing story and he couldn't be any more humble about it.

There's a story circulating about Derek Roy from Guelph who saved the life of a complete stranger by donating his liver to a nine-month-old baby. The surgery went fine and both are recovering! We'll be featuring parts of my interview with Derek throughout the show but it got me thinking... does this sort of thing happen often? Have you saved someone's life or has someone saved your life? What's the story behind it? Call me at 705-848-2567 and let's tell those stories!
