A mortgage is much more than just a rate. The bank reps will make nonsense comments like 'we can't really calculate it until the payout date' which I call nonsense because all institutio...ns have thousands and thousands of payouts triggered all year long and they could easily quote a range for a client to anticipate. i.e. A variable rate mortgage penalty is about 0.50% of the balance. A 5yr fixed rate mortgage penalty is about 4.50% of the balance About 900% higher.
