Vancouver is facing a housing crisis. This new investment from our federal government will work to quickly house our most vulnerable. Much more needs to be, and will be, done. This includes building affordable housing in Vancouver, supporting first-time home buyers and creating a foreign speculation tax.

Thank you DFO Minister Jordan who has launched consultations with First Nations, industry and ENGOs on ending open net pen salmon aquaculture, and transitioning to a safer better way of farming salmon and protecting jobs. I championed this since 2008! Rallied BCs Liberal MPs to unanimously endorse this commitment and meet with our government leaders to explain why it’s important. Congrats Terry Beech, MP on the big news for protection of Pacific salmon - a great day!

As Small Business Week comes to an end, I think of the small tree-planting business I started with my husband Dirk (who I met while tree-planting in BC in 1975). It was hard work, and our small businessgrew! Although I’ve since moved into politics to take action for the environment, over a billion trees have been planted by Brinkman and Associates. 3 million tonnes of plastic are thrown away every year. Plastic bags, straws, stir sticks, six-pack rings, and other plastics litter our parks, lakes and rivers and are consumed by animals. Today, Minister Jonathan Wilkinson announced our government’s plan to achieve #ZeroPlasticWaste by 2030. Something we promised to do in the last election.

I recently visited Jimmy Khinda at his restaurant, Bella Roma Pizzeria & Ristorante in West Point Grey. Small businesses like his are the bedrock of our community here in Quadra, and across Canada.
