SECRETS to knitting a flattering summer sweater- 1. Choose a non-fitted style with a smooth seamless raglan sleeve. This creates an elegant effortless fit. 2. Opt for a three quarter or bracelet length sleeve. *This top down design allows optional sleeve lengths. 3. Go for a tunic length with side vents and high/low hem for ease of movement and to create a relaxed look to wear with capris, jeans, palazzo pants or skirts.... 4. Choose a linen blend yarn for maximum breathability, and gorgeous drape. 5. Create surface interest and texture with simple garter stitch. *Also great at disguising tension flaws. Kits for Linen Tunic Top are available for mail order or curbside pick up in a bevy of beautiful dress up shades. Msg for order info. Black, Red, Cream, Grey Green, Sunshine Gold, Summer Pink, Pewter (shown), Turquoise, Olive, Medium Mocha.

Happy Victoria Day to all my fibre friends Wishing you a day of relaxation with the warmth of the sun and sounds of nature... and who else is celebrating with a Victoria Day cast on? Did you know?... Queen Victoria was an avid spinner, knitter and crocheter too. During the 19th century handiwork was done more by necessity as a cottage industry but soon became a leisurely activity enjoyed by many. Her Majesty's influence on society brought forward the production of standardized knitting needles and printed patterns. While the Queen enjoyed the calm meditative craft of knitting, she was far more skilled and comfortable at crocheting and this story seems to prove that fact... while on a visit with a family near Balmoral Castle she gifted the hostess with a pair of handknit socks. An elderly woman hard of hearing who was also present and hadn't grasped the visitor's identity, spoke too loudly, "If her man gets no better made socks than that, I pity him". Fortunately for all ... the Queen was amused.

Styling your knitwear with handknit accessories adds all sorts of options to your warm weather wardrobe and in most cases with just a skein or two of yarn. Starting with our basic summer tee, Yume, a top down short sleeve pullover with lace yoke details, we have put together seven layering ideas for your viewing pleasure. 1. Moondance Shawlette. ... One skein of slub yarn in hand dyed merino creates a lovely crescent-shaped design with pretty eyelets and picot edging. 2. Gaia Cowl. Ideal for the in between seasons as a light cover up for bare necklines. No fussing or pinning in place, this design is part shawl, bandana and cowl with the prettiest picot flourish to finish it off. Knit with one skein of bouncy soft self-striping merino. 3. Twigly Shawlette. Just like adding lipstick for a pop of colour, this versatile scarf to shawl accessory is the ultimate wow factor. Two skeins of tonal hand dyed merino create this intriguing project with self-closing features. 4. Waiting For Rain Shawl. A very wide cosy shawl to wrap yourself up in when the air conditioning is set on high. Two complimentary skeins of fingering weight merino set the mood for lace and garter stitch. 5. True Bliss Shawl. A fascinating rainbow of colours will emerge to liven up a simple t shirt or linen dress. This triangular shape is worked from the top down in a simple stripe pattern with two contrasting colours- one which creates stripes and one which changes hues. 6. Early Blossom Cowl. A pretty mix of hand dyed colors reminiscent of a Spring garden work in harmony to highlight the lacework and textural stitch work on this asymmetric design. 7. Into Thin Air Shawl. Gossamer fine kid mohair with silk is the yarn of choice for this innovative self-closing shawl. Msg for further info and order requests. Curbside pick up or mail order available.

Isn't it lovely when a fellow knitter/designer shares her pattern for FREE.... (but only until May 31st). A big thank you to Diane for creating such a fun poncho pattern and if you picked up some of the goodies at our VIRTUAL Spring Fling Trunk Show then you are ready to cast on. Just 2 skeins of Rhichard Devrieze Thede or 3 skeins in Peppino will knit this light summery design. P.S. We still have some summer speckles in stock. From Diane- Hugging Again... "Where would we be without our friends? This has been a crazy tough year for everyone and we’re finally getting back to doing the things we love. I would like to say how grateful I am for the wonderful friends in my life. I’m sending out a giant hug of thanks for the hikes (even in the dead of winter), outdoor knitting sessions and all sorts of communication zoom meetings, calls, texts, chats it was all wonderful! I’m a hugger and it’s so good to be able to hug again. As I was starting this ponchette, I talked with friends, detailing my plans for the yarn and beads, and received a great deal of encouragement from them. It made me realize, once more, how much I value their shared experiences, suggestions. I am grateful to everyone for their inspiration, support and long lasting friendships. I’m so glad we can hug again!" https://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/hugging-again See more

Is it slipper season yet? One of the most popular projects in the NEW Saltwater Gifts book which just made The Globe and Mail Top Ten Bestseller list.. and is sure to be under many Christmas trees this year! This is such a quick project to knit with two strands of worsted pure Canadian wool. 100% Canadian eh ... Here are a few of our most frequently asked questions regarding this project -- Q: Can these be knit in one night? A: They take approximately four hours to complete. Q: Does the pattern have more than one size fits all? A: The pattern is a standard adult size but can easily be adjusted in length to fit any foot length. Q: Are they knit flat? A: No... These are knit on double point needles just like socks from the cuff down. No seams... yay! Q: How much yarn is required? A: Just over 100g depending on foot length of course. Q: Are they difficult to knit? A: If you are familiar with knitting socks and have tried cables, then this pattern is quite simple. Q: Do you have the books and yarn in stock? A: Yes! We have copies of the book plus more than a dozen colours to choose from. Heres a question for you that comes up often in our knit along discussions. Are you a process or product knitter? Chime in with your comment below. P.s. Look closely and you might find 3 loons in this pic. ... A process knitter enjoys the feel of the yarn, the rhythm of the stitches and is not so focused on what the project will become but more so on the techniques. This type of knitter works on one project at a time and can maintain a very even tension while achieving a meditative effect from knitting. A product knitter is focused on the end result-- what it will look like and how it will fit. There is usually a list of projects ahead and it becomes a race to the finish line. Tension is generally tighter and more frogging occurs.
