Happy Halloween! We hope your Halloween is safe and full of more treats than tricks! This Guzmania musaica was in bloom in early October within the tropical pyramid. This plant, native to Central and South America, typically blooms between June and August, and can grow up to 16 inches tall. Some say it looks like the Halloween treat candy corn - what do you think?
Good morning, Edmonton! This picture perfect pyramid postcard was taken by Sarah Birmingham on Thursday morning. We're patiently waiting for the day when we can welcome you back to our river valley oasis!
Happy Tuesday! This week, we wanted to focus on FOLIAGE. The Muttart can be full of first-class flowers but sometimes the leaves are just as stunning. Enjoy!
It's a beautiful day for a new #plantfeature. Meet Heliotrope Marine! The purple flower in the planter. Look familiar? We grew all of the plants shown here for our plant sale this year! Share a picture of your Muttart plant in the comments below.
Happy Thursday! Meet Cereus repandus, the Peruvian apple cactus currently blooming in our Arid Pyramid! This beauty is a large, thorny columnar cactus found in South America. It is also known as giant club cactus, hedge cactus, cadushi, and kayush.
Happy Monday friends. Today we are happy to share the latest bloom at the Muttart: Angel's trumpet. This plant is native to Brazil and part of the Solanaceae family which includes a broad range of edible and medicinal species including trees, shrubs, vines, and herbs. Though Angel's Trumpet is related to many agricultural products including tomatoes, it is not edible.
Happy Friday! Today's plant feature is Red Brugmansia (Brugmansia sanguinea). This plant is regularly found in the Colombia Andes down through Chile. It likes growing in cool summer climates and can tolerate light frost. The flowers are not scented but the colors are extremely vibrant! In their native habitat they attract many hummingbirds.
