Shared Pandemonium: Visual & Creative Arts Fine Arts VIRTUAL Graduate Exhibition Meet the Artist: VERONICA THOMPSON About the Artist:... Veronica Thompson is best known for her paintings and digital works. The main mediums she works with are acrylic, graphite, and digital. Most of Veronica’s style is semi-realistic, with fantasy influences. She also likes to try more graphic works with bold lines and minimal colour. Her common themes with her work are mental health, equality, fantasy, and female empowerment. Artists who have influenced Veronica’s work are Van Gough, Monet, and Frida Kahlo. Artist Statement: I have been interested in art my entire life since I am the youngest in a family of six where all of us are very creative. I got into painting with acrylic and watercolour at a young age and I started taking art classes. When I started high school I was given the opportunity to paint a mural in the school’s library. In grade eleven I was given the opportunity to work with the school’s graphic design program, and this is when my love of digital artwork and computers began. I am becoming more and more proud of my artwork and I hope to be expanding my body of work in the near future. Shared Pandemonium: Visual & Creative Arts Fine Arts VIRTUAL Graduate Exhibition Meet the Artist: MICHAELLA BASSEY About the Artist:... Michaella Bassey is an Eastern Ontario based artist, originally from Montreal, Quebec. Since a young age, she has always had an affinity for art and has been inspired by artists such as Francis Bacon, Abigail May Alcott Nieriker, Jackson Pollock, Michaelangelo, and Mary Cassatt. Although Bassey’s work often consists of mixed media paintings, she has explored different mediums in the past. This artist has created pieces using techniques such as paper quilling and origami, along with materials like denim, spray foam, and flora foam. Her bodies of work explore political, social, and cultural issues. Artist Statement: Creating art gives me a sense of purpose, without it I would be voiceless. Art provides a platform for me to touch upon important issues. I feel the world would be a better place and that people would be happier, if they were more self-aware, both emotionally and psychologically, which is what art is there for- introspection and growth; to start conversations and practice critical thinking. My works often stem from problems I have faced in my life or issues I am passionate about. I constantly explore myself as an artist, individual and as a member of society through my work. I challenge myself by using materials that I have never used before and exploring topics that there seems to be trepidation to explore. This develops and broadens my skills as an artist, as well as shows the type of artist I am. See more of Michaella’s work in the VIRTUAL Graduate Exhibition Shared Pandemonium April 30 June 12 https://www.stlawrencecollege.ca//marianne-van-silfhout-ga If you wish to join us for the online reception on Saturday, May 1 from 1:00-2:30 pm, email [email protected] to be sent a link.

Shared Pandemonium: Visual & Creative Arts Fine Arts VIRTUAL Graduate Exhibition Meet the Artist: LAUREN POST About the Artist:... Lauren Post is a 19-year-old artist with features in 3 successful exhibitions. Having an interest in art from a young age, Lauren attended a specialist Arts High School before graduating and enrolling in St. Lawrence College where she improved upon her skills and became skilled in a variety of new techniques. With a catalog of over 1000 sketches and nearly 100 finished works, Lauren is proficient in many mediums, mainly acrylic and pen and ink. Her unique life experiences have contributed to a diverse and communicative body of work. Artist Statement: I create art to vent frustrations or get validation or to escape my life through fantasy and surrealism. The art I make for myself is usually tonally far different from the art I make when I want to prove that I am a good artist. I make most of my artistic decisions based on spur of the moment ideas, a concept is thought up and started immediately while I still have the motivation to do so. The initial stages of apiece are focused on getting an idea down exactly as I imagine it, while the later stages are focused on what will be the most simple yet striking way I can accomplish a finished product. The evolution of my style came about through experimenting and painting for fun and seeing what worked or was the simplest way to do something well. I challenge myself by continuing to experiment and finding more effective ways to create. Shared Pandemonium: Visual & Creative Arts Fine Arts VIRTUAL Graduate Exhibition Meet the Artist: ERIKA FAIRBANKS About the Artist:... Erika Fairbanks is a hard-working individual who focuses on creating art pieces that are based around human interaction and understanding mankind in itself. Erika uses fantasy scenes, something that she admires deeply, to demonstrate how easy it is to overlook how our actions affect others, positively or otherwise. Artist Statement: Emotion and human response are small yet very complicated things that we tend to overlook in life, this I intend to change. I feel like it is important to know how we work so that we can understand why we are who we have become and how to shape ourselves into better people. The work that I have produced so far played on the subject of how colours can influence our emotions and how we act in certain situations when around specific colours. I explore the many ways that humans interact with each other. Looking at not just how we see ourselves, but how we see others as well. Shared Pandemonium: Visual & Creative Arts Fine Arts VIRTUAL Graduate Exhibition Meet the Artist: CHRISTINE ANTLE About the Artist:... Christine Antle is an acrylic and mixed-media artist. Her art career has been a journey of self-expression, healing, and self-awareness. She primarily paints women and although the women depicted are imaginary, she can see herself in the paintings. Born in Brockville, Ontario she now resides with her family in the village of Athens, Ontario. Her many art influences include Prudence Heward, Frida Khalo, Georgia O’Keefe, Helen Frankenthaler, Amedeo Modigliani, Jean-Michel Basquiat, and Henri Matisse. Artist Statement: In life, I am a planner and organizer but when it came to my artwork, I didn’t do either. It was spontaneous and messy at times. I began painting as a response to hearing about my abuser’s death. It may not be the most inspirational way to begin a career goal, but this is the only truth I can tell. It was the beginning of my healing journey and became my way of expressing or processing emotions that cannot be expressed with words. Art gives me the freedom to express myself when words fail me.
