Meet Elisabet! We were inspired by her passion to make change and how she uses her voice to help educate us on the BLM! I asked her to share a bit about herself, as it’s strong women like Elisabet who are our future! My name is Elisabet and I was born and raised right here in Truro, NS. My parents are both from Ethiopia, which makes Ethiopia my home too! I am a first year student, studying Engineering at Dalhousie University. I got involved in the BLM movement becau...se the movement is dealing with a humanitarian issue, and I believe that anyone who opposes or does not stand with it simply doesn't value Black lives. As a Black person living in Canada, I am aware of the social injustices faced by BIPOC's and the position that puts me in. I see the BLM movement as a callout for justice for Black people across the world, bringing to light the systemic injustices in play in mostly every system, and unnecessary police violence/brutality. While we see Black people dying far too often in the USA, people in Canada are getting too comfortable believing racism is not a problem here, which is simply untrue. Regis Korchinski-Paquet, Jason Collins, D’Andre Campbell, and Eishia Husdon are just a few of the many Canadians lost to excessive and unnecessary police brutality this year, and did not deserve to die. These racial injustices have got to stop, and I believe systematic change is long overdue. See more

What a year 2020 has been! On March 17, 2020 business was grim and everything felt pretty scary & unknown. Fast forward 30 days later and we were busier than ever, my staff had been hired back, and we had donated close to $75,000.00 Over the past 8 months you had stood by this business and supported it in ways that transformed this company from feeling defeated to blossoming. As you know, my company is built on impact and this year alone we have donated over $140,000 to cha...rities in need. I can never truly explain the joy this bring me (and my team). Many other local businesses joined our Stay the Blazes charitable campaign with impactful products and raised thousands, while keeping people working through a very dark time. I will look back at 2020 with many mixed emotions but mostly with gratitude. I am thankful for your endless support of impactful, Canadian made apparel. I am thankful for what this year taught my children, and that they got to witness incredible hard work but also that helping people comes before lining deep pockets.
