In honour of Breast Cancer Awareness Month, our Fort Frances campus Esthetics students hosted a Night in Pink Spa event to raise money for breast cancer research! For a small donation, participants received a relaxing professional hand massage from our students. Miigwetch to everyone that attended. In honour of what would have been our annual Fall Harvest event, here's a few throwback photos from previous years. Dagwaagini-maawindoosijigewin (Fall Harvest) is an immersive two-day cultural experience that demonstrates Anishinaabe fall harvesting practices. Fall harvest provides a unique opportunity for students to participate in traditional practices including wild rice preparing, bannock making, traditional storytelling, deer preparations, medicine demonstrations, Métis games and more. Sadly, due to COVID-19, SGEI decided to cancel all in-person demonstrations, but we're working on providing students with a digital Fall Harvest experience! September 30th is Orange Shirt Day, a day to commemorate the residential school experience and residential school survivors across Canada. Residential schools were government-sponsored schools with the purpose of educating and assimilating Indigenous youth into Canadian society. These schools operated in Canada between 1831 and 1996. Starting July 14th, book a professional cut, colour or other hair treatment with our hairstyling students in Kenora! In order to graduate and perfect their craft, our students are booking hair appointments with clients every Tuesday through Friday, 9:30 am-4:30 pm until August 13th, 2020.
