Criteria and extension changes to the CERB and EI programs for those who's employment has been affected by the Covid19 virus.
Hi.. I thought I would share candidly today. Self isolation has me working from home. I'm self employed like so many small businesses here in town. My normal income derives from my clients who put their trust in me at this time to file their tax returns. ... The federal government has extended the filing deadline to all Canadians. But let me ask you this? You might have a refund coming your way, could you use the money? This is the perfect time to do your taxes now. Claim your refund that is owed to you and help me (the little independent) self employed business owner to continue to remain financially viable to buy food, medicine and to pay my hard costs associated with running a bookkeeping business. I am able to file your return without even having to physically see you Technology is a wonderful thing. If you would rather drop your physical documents off to me directly, I can arrange to do that too. Safely. Thank you to those of you who have reached out to me this week during our first week of social isolation. Stay safe, stay healthy

Here you have it friends & clients it appears that the CRA is extending the filing deadline by 1 month. (I stress appears) I havent seen anything come across the Canada revenue agencys Facebook page yet. According to the article an announcement will be made soon. I anticipated this to be the case according to the National Post, Personal tax returns will be due June 1st and for those of you self employed July 31st. It also appears that there will be an extension for payments any returns with a balance owing until July 31st.
I have personally not verified this but it has been shared in our accountant network Forum https://docs.google.com//1Tv9UH8Nn5Y0ilGZ5Gflv/mobilebasic
I will post information as we learn more details
It felt great during this time of self isolation to be able to deliver news to a family that has been financially affected by Covid-19 that a refund was coming their way from the CRA. File your return early to find out what your tax situation is. To limit your exposure we can do everything paperless and online or I can come to you and pick up your paperwork. I work from home my exposure is minimal and Im here to help where I can

I encourage everyone to read this article. This will affect everyone who is a residential property owner in Nanaimo. Watch for a letter in the mail explaining how to make sure you dont get caught up in the new speculation and vacancy tax. The government paperwork will have a March 31st deadline and will require signatures of all owners (even husband/wife).

I have been waiting for an easy to watch video to share with you on what parents with children can expect next year for income tax season. CBC explains it pretty well. If your income is substantial be prepared to pay most of it back come tax time.
Today many of you with children will be receiving the new UCCB updated payment. If you have children between the ages of 14-17 and have not registered to receive the new benefits you should do it today. Visit www.cra.gc.ca for more information. You could expect about an 80 day process to receive payment. If you need assistance please feel free to contact me.

During the 2011 election campaign, Prime Minister Stephen Harper promised that if he was re-elected his government would allow families with young children to be able to shrink their tax burden by splitting parents incomes for tax purposes. On October 31st, he announced "the family tax cut," which, when passed, would apply to the current tax year. It is a non-refundable credit of up to $2,000 for couples with children under 18 years.
