Are you feeling rebellious these days? A little defiant at times in response to small things? I know I am. And I’m noticing examples of this in the behaviour of people around me. I see it in drivers on the road; in grocery store line-ups; in the way people speak to each other, whether they know each other well or not. It’s the effect that confinement and restrictions has had on us. ... When control and agency are taken away from us in parts of our lives, we try to reclaim it elsewhere. Even if we understand that these restrictions are necessary and for our own good. Frustration builds. I can’t help but see the parallel to dog behaviour. The more constraints and restrictions we impose; the less agency we allow; ...the less needs are met. And all of that frustration will show up in behaviour. Somewhere, somehow. Boundaries are normal, of course, but when we pile on restrictions without regards for needs and outlets, we get trouble.
