Nanny Goat Hill Community Garden 20.11.2020

Hello gardeners! We have a very generous volunteer who has been managing the compost! Please pay attention to the signs on the compost bins to know where to throw your compostable items. A few things to know about the garden compost:... If your plant is diseased, don't put it in the compost. Throw it in the garbage (or bring it home to discard, ideally) so it doesn't spread the disease throughout the compost and into other garden plots. Please only put compostable items in the compost bins. Compostable is different from biodegradable. For example, coffee/tea pods may be biodegradable, but they'll never break down in our compost system. If you are unsure, ask first before putting anything in the compost. Please do not put meat, dairy or pet waste in the compost. As well we ask that you don’t put any plastics, glass, metals, ceramics, etc. Thank for helping create beautiful compost!

Great news! We are opening on May 23, 2020! We have received the go ahead to reopen the garden. Gardeners: check your emails for instructions on registration. To those who applied through the lottery: we will be picking new gardeners in the next couple of days. We currently only have 8 available spots. If you do not receive an email from us, there is still a chance as some gardeners may not be returning this year. As registration advances, we will know how many more plots ...we have available. Please note: The garden is open ONLY to gardeners. We ask all others to stay out of the garden this year. Do not attend the garden if you have COVID-19 symptoms. You must keep at least 6 feet away from other gardeners. Do not use the gazebo or tables, on your own or to gather with others. Children should only be brought to the garden if needed. We encourage gardeners to wear face masks You must clean all surfaces you touch and your hands. Please bring soap with you. Keep garbage and clutter out of the garden. If possible, bring your garbage home with you and dispose of it there. Bring your own tools. The garden shed will be closed this year. Water hoses are available. Please contact us for any questions!

Hello gardeners and centretown neighbours! This is a reminder that the garden remains closed until further notice. There are signs at the garden to remind everyone that the garden is closed and we appreciate everyone's efforts in respecting that. We are currently working with Public Health Ottawa, through Just Food, to determine whether it is possible to reopen this year. We will keep updating you when we have further information. For the moment, we ask everyone to stay out of the garden. We thank you for your patience during these atypical times.

As you may have heard, the province of Ontario has lifted the order that was keeping community gardens closed. As such, we are currently working on a plan to see whether the garden can reopen this summer. In order to reopen, we need to submit an operational plan for approval by Ottawa Public Health. Until then, you can consider that the garden remains closed. We ask gardeners to not go to the garden until you have heard from us. Unfortunately, this year, the garden will be ...closed to the community. This means that if you are not a gardener at the NGH community garden, you cannot go to or walk through the garden. We will provide you with regular communication to let you know how things are evolving. Ottawa Public Health is working with Good Food to supply community gardens with some tools and this process may take some time. They are working really hard and we appreciate all their efforts - the best way to thank them is to give them the time to organize. We recognize that they have a lot of gardens to deal with, so we ask that everyone be patient. We are all keen to get things up and running as quickly as we can, but the priority is ensuring that adequate measures are in place during this exceptional time. In the meantime, it is crucial that no one attend the garden or start gardening until you have received further instructions from us. We have to keep in mind the safety of our entire community during these exceptional circumstances. Please reach out if you have any questions for us or constructive comments to share.
