Pictured here is Joni Pleau (middle left), Mike Pleau (right) and Herb Dowse (left) of Megatunes Inc. with Neil Young. Megatunes Inc. was a famed and award-winning Alberta record store owned by Mike and Joni Pleau. Their flagship location on 17 Avenue in Calgary opened in 1988, selling mostly cassette tapes, and moving into the '90s, CDs. In 2003 they added a store in Edmonton, on Whyte Avenue. For more than 20 years Megatunes was a haven for music lovers in the province; an ...eclectic space decorated with band posters and signed photos where patrons could buy their favourite artists’ albums, merchandise and concert tickets or see a live show. Supporting homegrown talent was a priority for Megatunes, often selling local music on consignment. Following Mike Pleau’s passing in 2008, Joni ran the stores until 2010. Browse a collection of memorabilia that highlights some of Megatunes' and Mike's famous Canadian connections; Mike also had a successful career as a Music Rep for Warner and BMG record labels. Check it out here: https://bit.ly/3nZcXci Do you have any prized memorabilia with a local Alberta connection? We'd love to hear about it for our Community Storytellers exhibit that will be opening next month. Email [email protected] and share your story by February 1.

He'll use a toy to make this complex instrument easier for young synth enthusiasts to understand, while illustrating how everything comes together and the endless possibilities. Logan's Pub was the proving ground for countless musicians. It’s where misfits and outcasts felt most at home in a conservative city, where their otherness was often feared. Staff and friends share their memories in the latest for Amplify.

Lyrique is a Philippines-born, Calgary-based hip hop artist who fuses moody R&B and melodic rap beats.
