Dear Members and Friends, Following on my last communication on the events happening in Nigeria, I’ll like to update the community on what has been done. Firstly, remember to join the meeting on Sunday, October 25th at 4pm. Displaying emotions and using strong words are good but taking effective, impactive, sustainable action is better. How do we take actions that would be impactful in addition to all the protests already going on? Link to join the meeting has been shared wit...h members What we have done or doing: 1. On behalf of Nigerians in Calgary, the attached letter has been sent to all 10 MPs in Calgary asking for action. We need to coordinate actions for Nigerians living in each riding to follow up with their MPs. Further communication on this to come 2. I have connected with other Nigerian Canadian Associations in Canada to coordinate our approach. We’ve met a number of times and agreed to go through our MPs, requesting the government of Canada to take action. I would expect point one above is being done in many provinces 3. We have sent a letter to the Nigerian government through the Ambassador. This is a formality just to register our grievances. We’ll await any response and share with the community 4. Following the content of the attached letter, we have commenced the process of opening a petition in the House of Common. This will be replicated by other NCA around the country. 5. We are looking at what can be done to the families of Nigerian youth killed during these protests. Proposal will be presented on Sunday 6. Sustained public actions in Calgary will be discussed on Sunday It is sad to see what is happening in Nigeria, we need to ensure we sustain the conversation. That is where we have decided to focus our attention. Thank you and God bless.
