The time has come when we must say good-bye to Alfreda Jeffries. What a long productive life she led! She was 99 years old. Her command of and contributions to history are legendary. The Nelles family, of whom she was a descendant, could not even begin to count those efforts. Alfreda's interest in and support of Nelles Manor was a real plus as we began 5 years ago, and it continued. She not only donated artefacts, but also some of the family's accumulated written history. ... She was always so encouraging. We will miss her, her sincere interest and input. Like an old friend, Nelles Manor has been without visitors for most of 2020. COVID 19 has affected us all in this unprecedented year. It was wonderful going on a Nelles Manor Tour with #MegGrimsmo on November 21st. It was the last one of the year. The ladies were interested to see inside. After lots of questions and laughter they were eager to sign up for all the events for next year. The Manor has that affect on people. * #

Here is a postcard of the Steamer Turbinia at Grimsby Beach. The Turbinia, owned by the Hamilton Steamship Company, was the first ship driven by the steam-tur...bine engine to sail the Great Lakes. Built in 1904, she was designed to provide a fast service between Hamilton - Toronto. She also brought tourists from Hamilton to Grimsby for the weekend.
