Presented by Neutral Ground & Dunlop Art Gallery as part of Art’s Birthday Buffet - An all-you-can-eat feast of remote-access art’s ...birthday content. Official radio partner - 91.3FM CJTR, Regina Community Radio Arts Birthday is an annual, international celebration of art, coined by Fluxus artist Robert Filliou (1926-1987) who produced works as a filmmaker, "action poet," sculptor, and happenings maestro. In 1963, Filliou proclaimed that art was born when a dry sponge was dropped into a bucket of water 1,000,000 years prior. He suggested that a public holiday be established, to celebrate the role that art plays in our everyday lives. By Filliou’s metric, 2021 marks Art’s 1,000,058th birthday. Come celebrate Art, with this year’s remotely presented buffet of artistic delicacies.

SQUARE APPETITES - Aralia Maxwell & PEELING THE STICKER OFF AN OVERRIPE PEAR - Larry Weyand Nov. 28 - Jan. 9/2021 Virtual opening reception: Saturday, Nov. 28, 7:30 - 8:30 pm Meat Draw with Aralia Maxwell - Sunday, Nov. 29, 1 - 3 pm Artist Talk: Larry Weyand - Wednesday, December 9, 7-8 pm... *Links to attend in bio* SQUARE APPETITES: examines the shapes that are celebrated in food, painting, and the visual culture of the Canadian prairies. This exhibition draws from the settler tradition of rural Saskatchewan and the aesthetics of celebratory meals. Reflecting upon the societal appetite for particular shapes and colours, the artist imagines transformations of these familiar gustatory forms. The ultimate question is; what are the values, nutritional or otherwise, of the square? ARALIA MAXWELL: is a visual artist based in Saskatoon, SK Treaty 6 Territory. She holds an MFA from the Nova Scotia College of Art and Design University and has exhibited at venues across Canada. PEELING THE STICKER OFF AN OVERRIPE PEAR: In conversations with family members around the dinner table, little moments of stress, anxiety, panic, abuse, disagreement, anger, addiction, sadness and loss all occurred within the context of a good meal. In order to better understand how these behaviours have been passed down from generation to generation, these seemingly little moments are transformed into rugs, bearing the impact of these memories through yarn and cloth. The curiosity of these works lies in the space where narrative, psychological resilience, mat making and food intersect. LARRY WEYAND: is a performance artist and rug hooker whose work defies the established properties of traditional floor decor and domesticity. Larry completed their MFA at Concordia University in Fibres & Material Practices and is now a visiting professor in Fibres & Textiles at Memorial University’s Grenfell campus in Newfoundland.

If you're out along the Scarth St walking mall, you might have spotted these swampy oddities, hanging out in our window gallery. 'Swampcillors: Envision your ideal representative' is an installation created by Alixx Davidson @__________alixx in collaboration with youth from @scultureproject , @judywensel , @krispalvarez and @swampfestyqr It's up until Monday, November 23, and visible from outside on the street, 24/7 Alixx crafted this swampy setting to showcase puppets create...d by youth with Street Culture Project over a worship series last month, hosted by Judy Wensel & Kris Alvarez, all under the umbrella of our partnership with Swamp Fest music and arts festival. The project overlapped Regina's recent mayoral race, and youth were asked about qualities that their ideal, public representative would possess. These ideal leaders, were then created, in puppet form! This has been a great partnership and we are so thrilled to be working with all of these amazing creative brains!
