Check this out folks, a great offer from a great community minded company!

Newfoundland Sportsman 09.07.2021

IN OUR NEXT EDITION You should never trust that your rifle/scope is on from one season to the next, no matter how careful you think you might have been with it, and one local hunter learned this lesson the hard way when he failed to touch a hair on the caribou he had line up at 150 metres. As Gord Follett writes in the coming issue of the Newfoundland Sportsman magazine, Chris did eventually get his animal, but not until his hunting partner, Uncle Art, showed him just h...ow much it was off, and then sighted it in properly. Gord’s article is one of several features in the coming edition of the Newfoundland Sportsman’s new digital magazine. (To subscribe to our digital format, visit our website - newfoundlandsportsman.com - and click on ‘subscribe.’ If you haven’t already done so, you can also view our entire latest issue, the 2020 Hunting Annual, free of charge.) Here is what a REAL conservation group does! Thanks for all that you do, Atlantic Salmon Federeration(ASF) for Atlantic Salmon in NL.

Still making progress

Newfoundland Sportsman 10.06.2021

There are approximately 8 million seals in Atlantic Canada. An adult grey seal can consume approximately two tonnes of prey each year, up to half of which is ...cod. Harp seals consume more forage fish, such as capelin. The amount harvested in the small commercial cod and capelin fisheries pales in comparison to the overwhelming volume potentially consumed as prey by seals. To date, and despite the repeated efforts of FFAW and sealers’ associations, the government has done nothing to control seals in the Atlantic and very little to publicly defend the seal hunt - a vital and sustainable economic activity. DEMAND ACTION ON SEAL OVERPOPULATION! It’s crucial that we take action before the impacts cannot be reversed. SIGN THE PETITION https://ffaw.nationbuilder.com/sign_the_seal_petition

More Great Work being carried out.

Time for our government to wake up and get with the program. THIS is the future of salmon farming

Newfoundland Sportsman 22.12.2020

Guess where the ONLY place in the ENTIRE world of salmon production is that DOES NOT have a totally land based closed containment production facility planned, b...eing build, or operating...THE ONLY PLACE. Yep, NL. We are LAST again as our markets vanish to more sustainable land based production...Instead we promote and fund with taxpayers dollars disease amplifying, polluting, predator attracting, wild fish killing open net pens. A tech originating from the 1960s that simply doesn't work. See more

No argument here...

There is a growing number of new adult hunters, men and women who have never hunted before. I have witnessed this in my FS/HE Courses. This is an interesting ...article. For you new adult hunters, there’s no such thing as a stupid or silly question. If someone is asking a question, they are looking for information and that’s what we are about. A tip though, I’d strongly suggest to read through the Hunting/Trapping Guide Book first because that provides the answers for most questions.

Introducing Moose Madness Mondays! This will happen every Monday beginning this coming Monday November 30 until the end of the season January 7/21. This is a sp...ecial drive geared toward already successful big game hunters of this year. We are asking hunters to take a look in their deep freezers and if you know that you won't eat it all, now is the time to make a donation. What a better place, than a Food Bank? This option is a heck of a lot better than looking in your deep freezer come the Spring and realizing that you still have too much meat left. Food Banks must have a Permit to be able to legally accept the donations moose and/or caribou meat. The Food Banks will accept not just burger meat but steaks, roasts, whatever you want to donate, they'll accept it. The meat has to have been processed by a qualified butcher. The meat has to have been harvested from this current season. For more information, check Sharing the Harvest NL website and even register your donation through our program. Please share this to your hunting friends.

It’s the FINAL DAY of the 12 Days of Nature! Caribou have been a fundamental part of our northern ecosystems for more than 2 million years. They have shape...d and been shaped by the harsh climates and landscapes and are built for survival where few others can live. Predators like wolves, bears, wolverines, and even humans have relied on the regular appearance of caribou as a source of food for thousands of years, many adapting their hunting patterns to follow caribou migrations. Canada’s caribou are a resilient species, having survived multiple ice ages, natural events like forest fires, and periods of overhunting. Across Canada, CPAWS is working with provinces, territories and the federal government, progressive companies, local communities and First Nations to develop conservation measures for boreal woodland caribou on public lands. Thanks for following along with the 12 Days of Nature! Happy Holidays from the CPAWS- NL Team

This is an historical day. If you are making a donation, you can register it to Sharing the Harvest NL. Hunters DON'T have to register through us, they can do i...t themselves. The most important thing, is to make a donation please. Beware of a group using our name, Sharing the Harvest NL, as their slogan for their own reasons, which has the potential to cause confusion in the hunting world. Please share this everywhere.

2020 HUNTING ANNUAL FEATURE The family moose hunt is a long-standing tradition in this province, and when one of this magazine’s most veteran writers, Derek Brace of Botwood, got together with his own father and brother last fall for the first time in many years, he knew the trip had the makings of a great bit of fun. In the Newfoundland Sportsman magazine’s first digital issue, which is currently being worked on, Derek talks about a few good hikes, a boil-up, lots of laughs... and a sense of satisfaction you get from sharing quality time with the people who really matter in your life. Who among us cannot relate to this? Derek’s article and several others, along with our popular Readers’ Photos section, Letters to the Editor and more, will be featured in the Newfoundland Sportsman magazine’s 2020 Hunting Annual. Two years ago; great hunt and friends

Newfoundland Sportsman 27.06.2020

Here is PROOF that Catch and Release, CnR, does work and IS successful. Some will say that the anglers, biologists, and the guides are professionals, they are. ...But the average angler doesn't have to be! Anglers who watch videos on how to properly CnR, will be just as successful. Sure there will still be a mortality rate but with the majority of anglers learning and practicing PROPER CnR techniques, it will be even less. Keep up the continued good work @Atlantic Rivers Outfitting Company.

COMING UP IN THE NEWFOUNDLAND SPORTSMAN MAGAZINE'S 2020 DIGITAL HUNTING ANNUAL A thrilling bear hunt and a bit of salmon fishing to boot. Yup, Jamie Pike had a great trip to central Newfoundland last year. His main intention on this excursion was to harvest a fair-sized bruin, and Jamie was informed by his friend James, who had been baiting for him, that one such animal hitting the bait had three distinct white markings on his chest and was in the 300-pound range. Would ...White Patch be the animal that Jamie would take with his bow? James did have the first opportunity to take this bear, after all. Jamie’s article and several others, along with our Readers’ Photos section, Letters to the Editor and more, will be featured in the new digital version of the Newfoundland Sportsman magazine’s 2020 Hunting Annual. Thought we'd surprise you folks with a Wednesday night movie. Watch this one closely folks. Moose are extremely aware of their surroundings. If you think for a... second that they do not notice something " out of place" in the area they call home.....think again :) We've met some good friends out here. Those friendships have meaning and we're blessed to have made them. A couple of those friends have been experimenting with "Go Pro" cameras, catching unique footage from only a foot off the ground. Watch the beginning of this clip. Grumpy is on his way to check on his gals, do a little raking to announce his presence.....when .....something is just not quite right !!! Grumpy is all over that little Go Pro on the ground near where he wants to rake. I'll let this story unfold for you thru the video. I hope you like the ending, I think it's cool. This was shot a 10-12 days ago when the fall color was gorgeous. As I've mentioned, we have so much to share with you. We have so much footage....we have months of fun ahead without worry. For any of you camera buffs out there....we've shot roughly 4TB of footage so far. UPDATE. The posts are pre-scheduled but the UPDATES are added in as things happen. Tuesday was a VERY special day. We've been here 48 days and have experienced so much excitement. To have such a great day unfold at this point was a total surprise. We located a huge bull thru binoculars way up high on a ridge. It was a workout getting to him, but holy smokes....the rewards were awesome. We'll begin sharing that day's images in the next few days, some very unique art is coming up. My heart is content as I've watched Grumpy work his way thru this year's rut. There's been many a moose thru the years who has grabbed my emotions, but Grumpy is way up there with the best of them. With so many new followers this past month....I would also like to revisit a fan favorite though....many of you know him.....We call him Mr T. Posts featuring Mr T are coming up too. #bullmoose #hunting #moosehunting #adventure #outdoors #photography #Nikon #sony

2020 HUNTING ANNUAL EIDER FEATURE If you’re a salt water bird hunter - Eider ducks in particular - you are going to love Bryan Oram’s article in the coming issue of the Newfoundland Sportsman’s new digital magazine. Entitled Eidermen, Bryan’s well-written and informative piece will make you feel as if you’re on the wild Atlantic Ocean with him and his buddies. In fact, magazine editor Gord Follett claims it’s one of the best Eider stories to ever grace the pages of our mag...azine. It’s definitely something that all salt water duck hunters can relate to. Bryan’s story and several others will be featured in the upcoming 2020 Hunting Annual. See more

2020 HUNTING ANNUAL FEATURE Opening day of duck hunting season... Our writer, Lucas Roberts, and friends have waited and prepared long enough. In the early morning hours, they paddle to their favourite spot and climb into the blind. Though the sun has yet to rise, their decoy spread is out. Now they wait... This article and several others will be featured in the coming digital version of the Newfoundland Sportsman magazine.
