A message from the World Health Organization that gives relief to all the kids (and some adults) who worried that Santa might not show up this year.
Welcome to Karen Justice, our new Administrator. You may know Karen from working with the Arts Council or as the organizer of the Queensborough Community Garden, among other community events or projects. Karen brings with her a wealth of administrative experience and wisdom.
Think about this. All of a sudden, we are all in the same boat. Some have lost jobs and the related financial losses. Others grieve all the deaths in our country. Still others grieve their dear loved ones' death. Finally, we are calling for a national approach. https://www.cbc.ca//toro/national-grief-strategy-1.5810829
The Compassionate I -Personal Images of Loss and Healing: photography exhibit at the River Market until January, sponsored by #newwesthospice and the Arts Council of New Westminster. Special thanks to #rivermarket and #pattersonbrands . https://newwesthospice.ca/the-compassionate/
Every so often a local business or group show their compassionate side by their actions. For this, they deserve our support and gratitude. Key West Ford steps forward to drive our end of life clients to appointments and clinics and to provide PPE to our volunteers delivering food hampers and other items. Thanks is not enough. We salute you, #KeyWestFord.
Perhaps an explanation or opinion or way to think about life's great mysteries.
Happy Thanksgiving.
Only 3 days left of our request for your help. Thanks to all who have donated so far.
Neighbour helping neighbour. That is the crux of a Compassionate City. Covid 19 and the Pier Fire got in the way of our annual fundraiser, River Walk for Hospice. These funds support our grief support groups. Lots of losses these days. Please help if you can.
The donations have been steadily arriving and just like that, we have over $5,000 raised. Only $15,000 to go!
Check out this video by our wonderful Board Member, Vanessa. We are still looking to raise $16,000 to reach our goal to help support our Bereavement Programs. Every donation helps! https://photos.app.goo.gl/tENfJuAdAnLRYtLs5
Thanks is not enough to recognize the compassionate New Westies who have helped so far. Our bereavement group re-started, with "recent, acute grief."
Wow, thanks Cassady & Associates.
For the 3rd year in a row, Cassady & Company lawyers have donated a Spousal Will package for a prize for our Hospice fundraiser. Thank you to another generous supporter. Stay tuned for some exciting developments this weekend.
A victory for health care for all in BC!
Grievers of a loss through death often share how family or friends may use cliches or offer ideas about healing and how those responses aren't very useful. Usually the best idea is just to listen and not try to fix it. Here's a story that we use to train our volunteers on listening. A 4 year old child's next door neighbour was an elderly gentleman who had recently lost his wife. Upon seeing the man cry, the little boy went into the old gentleman's yard, climbed onto his lap, and just sat there. When his mother asked what he had said to the neighbor, the little boy said, 'Nothing, I just helped him cry."
Once again, Quinn Waddington has stepped up as a banner sponsor for our River Walk for Hospice. Thanks, Quinn.
Welcome to Silver Sponsor for our River Walk for Hospice - Marcon - Building for Life. "For more than 35 years, we’ve developed a wide variety of homes across Metro Vancouver and know what it takes to build beautiful homes for everyday life. Buildings shape neighbourhoods and change lives in infinite ways. That’s why we pay attention to every detail, no matter how small. We walk through every floor plan of every building to ensure our homes don’t just look good on paper, they’re spaces that enhance lives. After construction is complete, each building must stand the test of time. We’re building for life." @Marcon
We are honoured to have the Health Sciences Association of BC, the union of over 16,000 professionals at over 250 health care agencies, as our presenting sponsor for our River Walk for Hospice as we honour frontline workers during this pandemic. Thanks is not enough. Check it out at www.newwesthospice.ca
