14 turkeys cooked-phew!!! With 1 commercial oven, & 4 plug in roasters, making a grand total of 24 large pots of delicious fresh turkey vegetable orzo pasta soup, by 28 caring selfless hard working volunteers over the past two weeks in various roles on day time and night time shifts!! We thank you all so much and so will our community friends who will receive one of our 600 plus containers of soup heading out on Christmas Day to warm them up with community love and Christ...mas cheer We are truly grateful to everyone who made donations of food items, turkeys, grocery gift cards, cash and cheque donations, and treats for volunteers, it sure kept us going providing everything we needed and now it’s almost time for a wee rest!!! I love kitchen organization! Thank you John Bosscher our Master builder and designer and John Hordyk from @exoticwoodsinc for your generosity for the building supplies! We are so happy that our kitchen island got a custom design maximizing every inch we had to hold 9 utensil bins, and cutting boards as well as a giant spoon rack on the wall! It is perfect! Thank you for hearing our need and coming to the rescue!

We’ve put together a little video of encouragement. It’s a Next Door Christmas gathering kind of like the old days except for the food and you! But that doesn’t have to be true. Look at our final harvest of our Next Door community garden we collected up on Saturday on the sunny fall day! Fresh home made salsa coming up with all this goodness!! Thank you to my daily volunteers who watered, picked weeds and cared for our growing veggies as well as getting to enjoy them with your families & neighbours! It’s closed up for the season now and look forward to 2021 growing season!

We got a fresh face lift this past week painting the inside and outside of Next Door Social Space/ Rolling Horse! It looks great and thank you to the small but mighty team that came together to volunteer clean and paint with us!!

Happy Thanksgiving to all of our neighbourhood friends and to those who received, volunteered or gave this week! We are truly thankful! We cooked and packaged up 57 beautiful turkey dinners with all the fixings and fresh apple crisp for dessert! It was a small army of helpers, we cooked 70 pounds of turkey, 60 pounds of potatoes peeled, 30 pounds of carrots peeled and chopped, 8 bags of cranberries to make sauce and 110 apples peeled for apple crisp! And then boiled turk...ey bones all day and made broth for three large pots of turkey veg soup to go to Compass Point Church food bank/market. We know many would not have a turkey dinner to sit down to so we got to work in our beautiful community kitchen, put the call out for food and helpers and the smiling grateful faces showed up for the meal to-go pick up at our door! Will you have extra turkey dinner you could package up and drop off to someone on the street or a family or single at the motels on Plains rd E or other areas where you live; where all they have is a microwave to cook food in? Let us all share in the blessings we each have and practically give and help as we can and feel lead, we can all make an impact and bring a smile to someone’s face! See more
