At our Board Meeting on May 10th, the difficult decision was made to cancel the Mighty, Mini & Junior Soccer program again for 2021. With the increase in school cases in St. Vital, most CC's in the area have made this tough decision. All registered players will be contacted via email through the RAMP Registration program about their refunds. PLEASE STAY SAFE!!

UPDATE - FEBRUARY 16 - Our gym is available to rent for ONE ON ONE training only. Cost is $40 + GST per hour. Please contact Carmelle vis email to arrange a rental. The rinks at both sites are available to skate on, but buildings remain closed. We have had lots of garbage left at the rinks and in the parking areas, so PLEASE clean up after yourself! We have also had some concerns about players wanting to use the entire sheet for shinny when there are others on the rink. ... Please remember to be respectful and only use 1/2 the rink if there are skaters on the rink too. The Glenlee site on Worthington has 2 rinks with nets and a pleasure rink with no boards or nets, so perhaps that is a better choice for people just looking to skate. PLEASE remember to follow the protocols posted - if you arrive and the rinks are full of people, DO NOT join in, as you could receive a fine!

To our devoted BVRA players, coaches, and parents... We are writing today with some disappointing news we have made the difficult decision to officially canc...el our 2020-2021 season. Every day for the last several months we have been analyzing the impact of Covid-19 on our sport and season. With the recent determination of the government to permit one-on-one sports in indoor facilities, and the loss of some of our local arenas we have made the difficult decision to cancel the season. Although our season did not transpire in a way that we had hoped that it would, we will come together in the spirit of sport and competition again. We would like to take this opportunity to thank our coaches, junior coaches and team volunteers for their time and efforts with our players this season. The time you have spent with our players, particularly since the shut down, has been extraordinary. We are so thankful for your ongoing connection and dedication with your teams. You have truly gone above and beyond to keep the players engaged, inspired, and involved in the sport we love. Thank you!! Thank you to our membership for your patience, understanding and flexibility as we worked through the uncertainty of our 2020/21 season. We look forward to seeing you all at the rink again soon. ODR NEWS For the rest of the season our community centre had decided to keep the rinks for pleasure skating only, with no practices or games. We feel that it is in the best interest of the entire community for everyone to be able to come out and enjoy the ODR’s when it is hard to find activities to simply get out of our homes. There have been huge amounts of people using our rinks this year, so it would be unfair to the community to take away that experience at this time, especially since the ODR season will be coming to an end shortly. Please note that the buildings will remain closed, so washrooms will not be available. Stay safe!

Just wanted to give a shout out to our own Sami Jo Small. For those of you that aren't aware, "The Sami Jo Small Hockey Facility" was renamed in her honor a few years back, and recently she published her first book "The Role I Played". This book is a terrific read (and a great gift giving idea) and you get a true depiction of the dedication, struggles and glory involved with being an Olympic athlete. We are very proud of her and her continued accomplishments!

5/5 Things to Remember When Feeling Depressed: You are so needed even if you feel worthless. So one of the things I've been thinking about on my long walks ...is how I can make an impact on others. Elderly people, especially those most vulnerable to Covid-19 are probably the ones who feel the most lonely. I've been thinking of teaching a live online Active Older Adults class to help them stay strong. Classes start in January every Tuesday & Thursday 10am CST. All they need is a chair, a resistance band, a small set of dumbbells or soup cans and internet connection. If you know of anyone that might qualify for such a class send me a quick message. #strongertogether #activeolderadults

ATTENTION COMMUNITY MEMBERS, ESPECIALLY SENIORS WHO ARE LOOKING FOR AN OPPORTUNITY TO DO SOME HOME EXERCISE, AND ARE MISSING OUR CLASSES AT NGCC! Hopefully most of you have been trying to get some exercise in to keep your mind and body healthy There are lots of walking and seniors fitness classes on your TV/tablet if you have access to YouTube. These are great and you don’t need much space in your home to do them. Some of you might already have checked out the Dakota Com...munity Centre website as well. Our other Light & Lively instructor Helen has a couple of workouts on there and you can access them for free! These options above are great to do, but there is no interaction with anyone, and sometimes, seeing and interacting with people is more important than the actual exercise is! I wanted to let you know about an opportunity that Ruth is planning on running soon. Most of you know Ruth as our Friday instructor, but for those of you that just joined us this year, Ruth and her husband were supposed to be travelling this year so Helen took over the Friday classes for her. She has been teaching here for a number of years now and is awesome just like Helen. Her focus is more on stretch and strength with less cardio than Helen, but very beneficial none the less. She plans to run classes on Tuesday/Thursday mornings. This would be from the comfort of your own home, so if you have access to a computer/tablet/smart phone, you can certainly join up! Signing into a Zoom class is VERY EASY, so don’t be afraid! You would need a small pair of weights, a resistance band and a chair... and obviously a computer, lap top, iPad, or mobile device. The classes will be held at 10am CST every Tuesday and Thursday. For anyone interested please contact Ruth, so she can make sure that the class she is teaching would be appropriate. She can be reached by email at [email protected] or give her a shout at 204.688.7884. Stay safe everyone!

OCTOBER 30, 2020 UPDATE FROM HOCKEY WINNIPEG AND SVMHA There has been an update from the Government of Manitoba. It reads: The Winnipeg Metropolitan region wi...ll move to the Critical level (red) on the #RestartMB Pandemic Response System effective Monday, November 2nd. The following measures will be put in place: Sports and Recreation Activities * All recreational facilities, group sports, arcades, bowling, etc. Suspended. * All indoor and outdoor sports facilities closed. During Dr. Roussin’s press release he encouraged everyone to implement all the new restrictions immediately. SVMHA also received word Hockey Winnipeg is implementing the following directives: * Effective Saturday, October 31st ALL Hockey Winnipeg sanctioned activities must cease and are postponed until further notice * This is including but not limited to: practices, development sessions, games, exhibition games, dryland workouts and team functions * Hockey Winnipeg teams are NOT permitted to travel outside the city to participate in any hockey activities * These directives apply to all levels of play within Hockey Winnipeg including U18 AAA * A number of facilities are already closed in Winnipeg. Before going to the rink tonight please check to see if your facility is still open. Hockey Winnipeg would like to encourage our members to follow the Provincial guidelines, the sooner we can stop the spread of Covid-19 the sooner we can get back to the rink. When more information becomes available regarding a return to sanctioned activity it will be shared at that time. As a result of facility closures and the aformentioned infomation, effective immediately SVMHA has closed St. Vital Centennial Arena and all SVMHA sanctioned activities must cease and are postponed until further notice. Please let me be clear. We do not know how long these restrictions will be in place but have the full intent of returning to the ice when the facilities are opened with the goal of returning to game play. We as a board will continue to strive to provide your children with an opportunity to enjoy the wonderful game of hockey in a safe manner. Thank you for your time and patience during these trying times. Please stay safe and enjoy the quality time with your families. Clifton Dorge SVMHA President
