Alumni Spotlight - Austin Munday #myNCstory From cabling at the 2014 Sochi Olympics to most recently shooting the NHL Stanley Cup Playoffs, Austin Munday has travelled the world capturing sports as a Robotic Camera Operator with Dome Productions. While at Niagara College Munday landed an internship at Dome Productions as part of the BRTF Program. Austin quickly mastered his trade and would move from logistics to working on the production side after being asked to help at... the 2014 Sochi Winter Olympics. Shortly after, his career would take shape as he was assigned the role of Qball Camera Operator shooting NHL Games across Canada and the United States. As a Qball Camera Operator Munday operates upwards of 5 cameras per show shooting all regular season Toronto Maple Leafs home games as well as a handful of games in the East and West throughout the season. Fast forward to today, Munday has now worked on 5X NHL Stanley Cup Finals, 5X NHL Outdoor Games, 2X IIHF World Junior Championship, 2018 Peyongchang Winter Olympics, 2017 Tim Hortons Brier and so much more! Munday also recently was part of the Edmonton NHL Bubble during the pandemic covering 81 games over the span of 69 days. Munday states he owes an enormous amount of gratitude to Niagara College's Peter VandenBerg (Dutch) for his success. Dutch acted as a mentor to Munday and also offered him his first paid Mobile TV Teaching Assistant job in BRTF. When asked about his experience and time at NC, Munday said, "It's the people that stand out most to me, specifically the teachers Peter VandenBerg (Dutch), Dave Lostracco, Byron Gracey, Bruce Ashford & Simone Smith. They provided and facilitated all the opportunities that were thrown my way. The extra-curricular experiences that stand out were that I was privileged to shoot a Woman’s Clarkson Cup, Boston Bruins Alumni game, Niagara’s Decadence Chocolate competition, content for 97.7 HTZ Fm, RedBull Crashed Ice, Niagara’s premier Ice wine and Seafood gala and more. All these opportunities were extended to me by the professors who trusted me to represent the college." Read more alumni stories at www.myncstory.com Niagara College Canada Alumni
