Normal Heights Community Association 18.12.2020

Thank you to everyone who joined us for our Annual Holiday Home Decorating Contest. We’re grateful to everyone who entered, shared the event, went out to see decorations, and voted on their favorite house. We’d especially like to give a special shout out to Get Fit On Adams, Hillcrest Ace Hardware, and community members for donating this year's prizes. Even virtually, Normal Heights really brought the creativity, enthusiasm, and holiday spirit for this year’s contest. We hope to bring back our in-person Holiday Celebration next year. In the meantime, stay safe and Happy Holidays!

Have you filled out your census yet? Normal Heights currently has a response rate of 68-85%. That means that up to a third of people HAVEN'T responded... with only 3 days left*! For every person left out of the 2020 Census Count, California could lose $1,000 per person, per year, for the next 10 years--that's $10,000 per person! Among other things, this funding is used for:... - Community health clinics - Senior programs - Child health care - LGBTQ services - Higher education - Food programs - Homelessness needs - Roads - Bridges - Public transportation options - Schools The US Census is only nine questions and takes about 10 minutes to complete. To fill it out, go to 2020census.gov or call (844) 330-2020.

Happy 4th of July! Celebrating a little different this year than in years past but our country’s independence is still a great thing to celebrate!

Normal Heights Community Association 30.08.2020

Unfortunately, many community events for the 4th of July have been cancelled this year. With more families and friends spending time together at home during the... holiday weekend, we want to remind everyone that safe and sane fireworks are not allowed in San Diego County. Use of illegal fireworks will quickly ruin a celebration and you could be fined and charged for resulting damages. Celebrate responsibly and have a safe holiday weekend. #4thofjuly #independenceday #celebrateresponsibly #firedepartment #sandiegocounty #calfiresandiego #calfire See more

NHUA presents featured artists who live in the Normal Heights community of the City of San Diego, CA, USA! If you have been a long time resident of Normal Heig...hts you may already know Ed Douglas from his guitar and music shop on Adams Avenue called the Double Eagle, and his other infamous music shop called The Blue Guitar once located in the area of Point Loma. Did you know there are street stewards? There are and it’s a great way to volunteer. Hi neighbors! As the summer months hit and we inevitably receive lots of tourists and visitors, our streets are bound to see more litter out there. Normal Heights & Kensington Street Stewards is here to help, but we could always use more stewards for the cause! Our map is off to a great start with a killer first wave of volunteer stewards, but we need more to really build a strong, connec...Continue reading

You may have heard this today, but if not, it’s now mandatory in California to wear face coverings in public spaces - indoors or when social distancing isn’t possible. See the California Governor posting for more info. #covid19

The Normal Heights Community Association stands with Black Americans. The NHCA is proud of the diversity of the Normal Heights community. We believe that diversity make us stronger and our neighborhood better. Racist violence has been part of this country since its founding and recent events in the news have highlighted that Black Americans are not safe going for a run, birdwatching, or even resting in their own homes. This has to change.... Everyone who lives, works, learns, and plays in Normal Heights deserves to feel safe and loved here. Our neighborhood cannot be considered safe until all community members feel safe, whether from police or each other. We condemn overt hate and discrimination as well as police brutality, but also understand that insidious, subtle systemic bias harms the Black community every day. Black lives matter. Here in Normal Heights and beyond, Black lives matter. The lives of George Floyd, Breonna Taylor, Ahmad Arbery, Tony McDade, and countless others, matter. We are a small, volunteer-lead nonprofit organization mostly dedicated to creating simple social events that build community (and we regret that we have been unable to bring these events to you during this pandemic). We pledge to support Black and minority community members in the following ways: 1. We will implement initiatives to diversify our membership and board. 2. We will use our communications platforms to elevate minority-owned businesses in our neighborhood. 3. We will use our communications platforms to share information about where people can donate and how they can get involved in the Racial Justice Movement.
