We would like to send out a huge thank you to the thoughtful kids of our town and the Norris Arm Boys And Girls Club for making these little Christmas treat bags for each of our fireman. It really warmed our hearts to read your beautiful messages on each bag (how cute is this?) After the year we all punched it sure came in handy. We hope each of you had a wonderful Christmas and that Santa made sure you were on his list. Have a safe and Happy New Year and hopefully in the near future we will be Covid free and hold an open house to show our appreciation. Thanks so much!!

Please keep your trees watered. A live Christmas tree burn conducted by the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) shows just how quickly a dried out Ch...ristmas tree fire burns, with flashover occurring in less than one minute, as compared to a well-watered tree, which burns at a much slower rate. Together we make a difference!

For #FirePreventionWeek Sarnia Fire Rescue Services wanted to demonstrate why you should NEVER throw water on a grease fire! Always look while you cook but if... your cooking oil ever catches on fire safely put on a tight fitting lid or cookie sheet, turn off the heat and let it completely cool. See more

Spring is here and with the warmer weather ice conditions change very quickly. I know a lot of people are spending lots of isolating time with their families fishing and snowmobiling to get a break from what’s going on around us. Always keep safety in mind. The ice is getting soft quickly and conditions are changing fast. Use extreme caution and realize that it is April month and spring is in fact here. Stay safe and always be mindful of your surroundings.

*****PUBLIC ANNOUNCEMENT UPDATE***** After careful consideration, discussions with the Town Of Norris Arm, and following government recommendations regarding the Covid-19 event, we have come to the difficult decision to suspend all weekly drills/meetings and other Fire Dept functions until further notice. Our focus is on keeping our members and our families healthy to ensure we are always ready to respond. It’s better to be proactive then reactive in situations like the prese...nt time. We will continue to serve and protect the Town of Norris Arm if the need arises. HOWEVER, if you are experiencing flu like symptoms and need medical help, please call 911 and request an ambulance. They are specially equipped to deal with a medical emergency such as Covid-19. We will be following social distancing even on scene. A healthy Fire Dept is an effective Fire Dept. We encourage the residents to follow any recommendations from government and health officials. STAY INFORMED AND STAY SAFE AND IF YOU DONT NEED TO BE OUT. PLEASE STAY HOME!!! SHARE,SHARE,SHARE!!!!

Had a great drill last night. Figured we’d help out the town and clean out all the fire hydrants throughout the community. Easy access means getting water fast when you need it!!! If you have a hydrant near your property, it’s a good idea to keep it clear. Time is critical when that pager goes off. Every minute saved by clearing out your hydrant gives the Fire Dept a greater advantage when it comes to fire protection. Great job guys!

***Public Advisory*** Reports of very unstable ice on our bay. When ice was checked in a few places, the depth was measured at 4-5 inches of soft rotting ice. The weather conditions weren’t ideal to freeze the ice to an acceptable thickness. Most fresh water lakes and ponds were reported the be in the same condition as well. Please stay off any bodies of water until ice reaches ideal conditions. PLEASE SHARE AND STAY OFF THE ICE!!!

Winter Storm Fire Safety

Norris Arm Volunteer Fire Department 14.05.2020

Everyone should be making preparations for this snowstorm! Pay close attention to your property and check in on neighbors. especially if they are elderly or a person with disabilities. it is wise to expect a power outage as this weather could affect the whole province's electrical grid. ... Be aware of the Carbon Monoxide dangers if you use generators, or alternate heat sources. Camp stoves and BBQ equipment CANNOT be operated safely indoors; camping equipment is designed for outdoor use. Carbon Monoxide will always be present when using these devices. Unnecessary travel should not be attempted. Stay of the roads and shelter at home. Snow storms of this magnitude are not spectator or Sunday drive events. You could become stuck very quickly, blocking snow clearing efforts, and blocking emergency services from getting to emergency calls. Practice fire safety and ensure your smoke alarms are working. Be aware that electrical smoke alarms don't work during power outages unless they are backed up with a battery backup.
