Being out in the outdoors and on the land is all about having fun, breathing some fresh air and staying healthy. Have you been out on the land yet this winter?
As we are staying inside to protect our friends and people outside from COVID-19, let us keep commercial tobacco outside to protect our friends and family inside the home.
This week, the Building Vibrant Youth of the Northern Healthy Communities Partnership will be debuting some videos to inspire more adults to be role models and mentors to youth, to share language, culture and the identity of our northern Saskatchewan youth and to share some ideas you can explore in your communities. Stay tuned!
Have you ever considered being a mentor in your community? A mentor is commonly defined as an individual who provides friendship, guidance, direction and support for children and youth outside their own families. Check with your community and see if there are ways you can provide mentorship to our youth.

During these unprecedented times, we all need something to cheer us up. Getting involved in mentoring youth through tradition teachings is one way to cheer you up and the youth around you. Traditions bring people together and provide youth a sense of belonging. It brings joy to my heart to know that I am helping the youth in my community and that I am making a difference in their lives Shane. Here is a story of Indigenous Spirits from La Ronge. Indigenous Spirits is a youth-led movement to bring back traditions, culture, land-based learning and language to unite the community.

This week we continue to promote northen Saskatchewan languages and early childhood literacy. Here is the Dene version of the Are You Hungry children's book. "Language is very important beacuse it gives you your identity, it tells you who you are, how you fit in into this world, where we live, where we are." Elder Allan Adam. Feel free to share widely.
Cozy up with your child and enjoy this reading of an old Babies, Books and Bonding favourite - Elusive Moose! Reading stories with children is important for building language skills and a strong bonds with their caregivers. Sharing stories is important too, so be sure to tell your kids stories of your most valued hunting traditions and of the one that got away too!

Today is a day to promote awareness and understanding about suicide. It's also a day to talk about resilience and how we can work together to build strong communities and prevent suicide. If you are struggling, know that there is hope, there is help and with these things you can get through this. Reach out by calling Healthline (811), the First Nations & Inuit Hope for Wellness Line (1-855-242-3310) or visiting kidshelpphone.ca or your local clinic. You can help create a sui...cide safer community by learning about and sharing local suicide prevention and mental health resources, connecting with friends and family members, and talking about what you do to get through hard times. #WSPD2020 #hope #embracinglife
