I find it both inspiring and hopeful to know that within the city of Edmonton there are people like Kim Armstong creating programs that support a positive, inclusive approach to work. The ripple effect goes beyond the work environment finding it's way into home, heart and relationships.

COMMUNICATION WITHOUT POLARIZING When dealing with hot issues where "facts" and "feelings" are out of sync, it is important to employ the art of non-violent communication. When another person's perspective differs from ours and we aren't even a tiny bit open to hearing their perspective there is no way to negotiate. If we come to the negotiation table with an attitude of "my way" or "your way" there ceases to be the potential for a creative solution where a third way exists.... Take a few moments to listen to this short interview with a CTV news reporter and an associate professor discussing the rallies regarding anti masks/vaccines. The reporter in her opening comments already creates a closed-door attitude with her remark about the anti-mask group using information from their "misinformation playbook". The professor has a more open attitude with the following remarks," "conveyed feeling not working in the interests of the public: "don't trust the system"; "that the anti-group feels the economic downturn for the world is creating a different kind of harm"; "the thorny issue of freedom of choice" etc. Globally, we all feel uncertain about how to proceed. No matter which perspective we agree with it is important to be open and at least attempt to understand the other side. Let's at least be curious about the middle way! See more
