Meals on Wheels volunteers needed to deliver to Point Alexander Mondays, Thursdays and Fridays. Volunteers will need a clear criminal record and vulnerable sector check and a reliable vehicle. Mileage reimbursement is available. This is a contactless volunteer opportunity that requires a time commitment of approximately 1 hour per week at 4:30pm. For more information, call Shannon at 613-584-1900 or e-mail [email protected]

During the Covid-19 Pandemic, many of our older transportation volunteers are staying home and staying safe as advised by Public Health Ontario. We are currently accepting applications for Volunteer Drivers under the age of 65 who would like to drive clients to medical appointments in agency vehicles. Drivers will be required to provide a clear Police Check and Vulnerable Sector Check, as well as a clear Drivers Abstract. The time commitment can be as little as 1 hour per week. We need drivers who are willing to drive to Ottawa, as well as locally. Please call Shannon at 613-584-1900 or email [email protected] for more information about this fulfilling opportunity.

The children couldn't trick or treat in the Centre this year, so the staff dressed up and paraded through the Dining Room and the 2nd Floor to the delight of the residents and apartment clients. AdvantAge Ontario

COVID-19 caused our monthly Wheels to Meals Luncheons for seniors in the community to be discontinued. Clients and staff really miss this great event so we reinvented the program in a way that works during the pandemic. We had such a great time on Wednesday delivering a turkey dinner, complete with a festive placemat, napkin and "joke of the day", to 38 clients in the community. The theme was a fusion of Thanksgiving and Hallowe'en, with the staff dressed up in costumes for the deliveries. Seniors in the community, who are interested in this program, should call Shannon at 613-584-1900 for more information. Ontario Community Support Association AdvantAge Ontario

The long-term care Residents took part in Residents Council this morning. Discussion topics included planning for the annual fall Camp Day and providing feedback to the annual Resident Satisfaction Survey. As always, there were lots of good ideas shared.

We are adjusting to the new normal. We cant have our Adult Day Service clients come into the building so we are bringing the program to them via conference calls with the Mercuri Conference Calling system and activity kits delivered to the clients home. We run the program in six 1 hour sessions per week. If you are interested in joining our "Party Line," give us a call at 613-584-1900 for more details.

Its patio season and Barbs Bistro is up and running! "Chef Candice" served a Pesto Tuna with Marinated Vegetable Salad Plate and finished off with the Centres signature "Pigs Trough" dessert which residents enjoyed outside while listening to music. AdvantAge Ontario

We arent sitting around waiting for things to return to normal. Were creating new ways of doing things like Choir Practice, Wheelchair Assessments and Volunteer Training. The most exciting thing coming though is outdoor visits with residents and apartment clients! As soon as our procedure is ready, we will be getting in touch with families to arrange visits.

Happy Mothers Day greetings from some of our beautiful residents.

North Renfrew Long-Term Care Services Inc. 02.01.2020

We feel so loved by the community. Several weeks ago we asked for ear savers and gowns. People stepped up and we received over 150 protective cloth gowns in all colours and patterns, beautiful headbands, caps and crocheted and 3D printed earsavers. Premier Doug Ford said we should have an "iron ring" around Long-Term Care Centres but we feel surrounded by something much better - the love and support of our community while we work to keep our residents safe and healthy through this Pandemic. Thank you so much to each and every person who helped us!!! FordNation AdvantAge Ontario

Our residents want the community to know that we are all in this together and that we will get through this difficult time together. Today is day 39 that weve all been inside together....but whos counting? We miss all of our family, friends, volunteers and community connections.

We have received a directive from the Medical Officer of Health for the Province of Ontario that all staff must wear masks for the entire shift. That is going to cause some sore ears for our staff so we are reaching out to the community once again to see if people would make us some ear savers. We are also looking for 3/4" buttons if anyone has some. https://www.facebook.com/cuddlycrochetbydanielle/posts/637207187101503?__tn__=-R

We are so very grateful to have such amazing families and friends who are so supportive of our residents and want to bring gifts, food, flowers and treats. We are trying so hard to ensure that the virus does not get into our Centre so we are asking that you do not send these items, as they have to either sit for at least 72 hours or be sanitized and that process may ruin the items. Cards are welcome, however, please remember that there will be a delay before the resident receives the card. Messages, letters or photos emailed to [email protected] will be printed and delivered to the resident immediately. If any family member or friend is unsure about dropping off or sending an item, please call the Centre at 613-584-1900, on weekdays, for assistance. Thank you for assisting in the prevention of COVID-19 at the NRLTCC.

We have been ordering isolation gowns for our staff but the orders have not been filled so we are reaching out to the community to see if you can help us. We are in need of 150 reusable isolation gowns. If you can sew or have poly-cotton or pre-shrunk cotton you are willing to donate, we would love to hear from you. We have a pattern that can either be e-mailed or printed for you and left on our bench for pick up. Please call 613-584-1900 during the week or email [email protected]

The North Renfrew Long-Term Care Centre wants to recognize all the essential workers who come to work every day to look after our 29 vulnerable residents and clients. They are working hard to keep everyone safe and healthy. ALL staff are screened as they come to work and their temperatures are taken twice a day to ensure that they are healthy. Extra cleaning of "touch surfaces" is completed several times daily. And all the while, staff try to ensure that the daily routine is as "normal" as possible for the residents and clients during this unusual time AdvantAge Ontario

Thank you to all of our volunteers; those who are self-isolating and staying safe and those who are delivering meals on wheels, doing urgent transfers and picking up groceries for our apartment clients. We are so grateful to all of you. Weve come up with some creative ways to keep doing these things while keeping people safe.

NEW!! This morning, the Chief Medical Officer of Health, has strongly recommended that Long-Term Care Homes only allow essential visitors into the home. Effective immediately, visitors will not be allowed into the Centre, except visitors to residents who may be critically ill. Thank you to the family members who are helping to protect our residents and clients. Most importantly, a big thank you to the NRLTCC staff who are working every day to help our residents and clients through this situation. They are the best!!! We cannot do this without their caring and support!!!

North Renfrew Long-Term Care Services Inc. 22.07.2019

In an attempt to prevent the spread of COVID-19 to our Residents and Clients, all visitors must be screened for signs and symptoms of the disease as well as recent travel history and potential exposure. Effective immediately, it is with regret that visiting hours are limited to 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. in addition, visitors are limited to 2 per Resident/Client at a time and visitors under the age of 18 years are prohibited. All visitors must use hand hygiene before entering the Centre. During the week, visitors will access the Centre via the Ridge Rd. entrance on weekdays and will use the Brockhouse Way. entrance on weekends and after 5:30 p.m. Many thanks to the community for supporting these measures to keep our vulnerable Residents and Clients safe.

The residents wanted a Western-style dance - so a Dinner and Dance was held on Saturday evening. Residents and family members enjoyed a buffet meal of BBQ ribs, fried chicken, homemade rolls, potatoes, baked beans, corn, coleslaw and pie. Following dinner, the Dining Room was transformed into a Dance Hall where everyone enjoyed dancing and singing to tunes provided by "The River Boys." What a fun evening!!
