They truly are magic! #RVTMonth #Magicians #registeredveterinarytechnicians #multitasker #magic #weloveourteam
This week’s Friday Feature is Taylor! Taylor joined the NVS team a little over one year ago, and she was a perfect fit! She is a busy bee around the clinic - she may be the one you see for your pet’s nail trim, blood draw, booster vaccine, and so much more! She is always there to help with patients, make sure lab work is completed on time, and is often a friendly voice you will hear over the phone!... Help us wish Taylor a Happy RVT Month! Thank you for all that you do! October is RVT Month! For each Friday in October, we will be featuring our amazing registered veterinary technicians! #rvt #rvtmonth #thankyou #technicians #weloveourteam #family #teamworkmakesthedreamwork

GUESS WHAT?! IT’S RVT MONTH! We are so fortunate to have these 4 lovely ladies as our registered veterinary technicians! They are an integral part of our team, and for the next few weeks we will be showing off their amazing skills! COVID-19 created some obstacles this year, but despite the pandemic, they all still love every pet dearly and have a passion for veterinary medicine!... Help us celebrate RVT month! If you see Gayle, Taylor, Sue, or Alisha at the clinic, make sure to thank them for all of their amazing work #rvtmonth #rvtmonth2020 #thankanrvt #registeredveterinarytechnicians #weloveourteam #thankyou #passion #vetmed

We have unfortunately made the decision to postpone our fundraiser garage sale. With the new gathering restrictions announced by the Provincial Government, we want to do our part to keep everyone safe! Stay tuned! New date TBD, or we may decide to do an online auction instead! Follow the event on Facebook to get updates about the garage sale!

Gabapentin, Metacam, Tramadol - you may have used these medications in your pets, but what do they actually do? Gabapentin: useful in treating chronic pain and neuropathic pain. It comes as a liquid, tablet, or capsule, and is often given 2-3 times per day. Gabapentin is a fairly safe medication, and the most common side effect is mild sedation/dizziness. We use this medication often for our patients with arthritis, or if we want to treat pain in our patients who have underl...ying disease (e.g. liver or kidney issues). Metacam or Meloxicam: this medication is a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug (or NSAID). It is a liquid that is given once daily. NSAIDs can be tough on the stomach, liver, and kidneys, so for patients who are staying on it long term, we often monitor blood work. Metacam is one of the most common medications we use for all sorts of pain. Onsior or Robenacoxib: similar to Metacam, a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug. Onsior comes as a tablet and is given once daily. Tramadol: an opiate-like agonist that can be useful for chronic pain, but is usually used in addition to other pain medications. It comes as a tablet and is usually given 2-3 times per day. Tramadol is a fairly safe medication, and the most common side effect is sedation/dizziness. Cartrophen or Pentosan Polysulfate Sodium: this is an anti-inflammatory drug which is labelled for treating osteoarthritis. It is an injectable drug that is given under the skin. Injections are initially given once weekly for one month, then can be decreased to every few weeks or months. It is typically a well tolerated drug with mild side effects, if any. There are many other ways we can manage pain in our furry family members, but these are some of the most commonly prescribed drugs to go home. September is Animal Pain Awareness Month, and for the next couple of weeks we will share more information about managing pain in pets! #animalpainawareness #animalpainawarenessmonth #pain #painmanagement #painmedications #funfacts #medinfo #painfree #medicationfacts
Here’s your Feel Good Friday Photo! Meet Chester! This little cutie stole our hearts when he was in for his first visit! #feelgoodfriday #cutepetphoto #toocute #cutepuppies #puppies #labs #labpuppy #welovepuppies #firstvetvisit #puppiesofinstagram
Do you know the signs of pain in your pet? September is Animal Pain Awareness Month! Over the next couple of weeks, we will share some information about pain in our pets including the common clinical signs of pain, how we treat pain, and how we can improve our pets’ overall quality of life. We often hear things like Fluffy is still eating, so his teeth can’t be that bad. ... Fluffy will still go for a walk everyday, he just won’t take the stairs anymore. Fluffy sleeps for most of the day, but he is getting older so this is normal for an older pet. In reality, there can be underlying diseases that are causing pain, and thankfully we have many different ways to manage pain in our furry family members. Stay tuned for more information about pain management in our pets! #animalpainawareness #animalpainawarenessmonth #pain #painmanagement #qualityoflife #medicalmanagement #helpingpets #painfree
