NASA's Transiting Exoplanet Survey Satellite (TESS) was launched by a SpaceX Falcon 9 rocket yesterday. TESS is an exoplanet finder, that will discover new potential planets orbiting any of the 200,000 bright host stars relatively close to Earth. The mission is expected to discover thousands of planetary systems which can be studied in detail with future with the likes of the Thirty Meter Telescope (TMT) and The European Extremely Large Telescope (E-ELT).
