NSRIDE 15.11.2020

We are pleased to announce that the 2020 NSRide season will officially start on Thursday, July 16th. Obviously, we are not back to our regular scheduled programming, but we refuse to call this the new normal. We know this is temporary and the spirit of our club and the social atmosphere it fosters will return in time. The 2020 season will start with a return to our ever-popular Thursday Evening Rides. Depending on how things go, we hope to hold a few weekend rides in Aug...ust and September. So, what does a modified season look like? We have been in contact with the province and WorkSafe BC to put our plan together. Please visit: https://www.nsride.com/forum/topic/11492 for the current list of temporary restrictions. Please note, this is our starting point to get things rolling. There is opportunity to expand our operation as the season progresses. Please do not hesitate to reach out with any questions. We are excited to finally get things rolling again! See you on the trails!

Brian Britain has been around NS Ride and the north shore mountain bike scene for a long time. He’s a great ride and a great guy, and I think you’ll enjoy reading his story. How long have you been mountain biking? My first real mountain bike I got was in 1993 so theoretically that is when I started mountain biking but I’ve ridden bikes on trails since I was a kid and that would have started when I was about 11 (some math = a long time). We broke a lot of cheap bikes as k...Continue reading

It’s been really great getting to know some of the members of our NS Ride group a little better. This week is no exception, and Emily came through with answers to our questions even while she is exploring and adventuring with James and Chester. In case you don’t know, Emily is a driving force in our club, a lot of what happens is as a result of her hard work, so thanks Em, we appreciate it! I’m also loving the photos that have been put up in these posts, to me it’s demonst...rating how hard we all ride in some of the most challenging trails in the world (and we are pretty lucky for it!). Thanks for answering our questions and for the really amazing photos! If you are enjoying these member features, and you have someone in mind, let us know! Come on... throw your friends under the bus! It’ll be fun! _________________________ How long have you been mountain biking? I began mountain biking in the spring of 2016. Where did you start? My first ride was on Mt Fromme on Bobsled, James told me he was taking me on a few ‘easy’ trails. I didn’t have pads and crashed a few times, there was blood and tears and at the time I thought it was the worst sport ever. I’m so glad I stuck it out! What/who got you in to the sport? I was introduced to the sport through James (my significant other). He bugged me for a long time and told me he thought I would do good at it. It's fair to say I really developed a passion for the sport and a love for the community of people I ride with. What other sports do you do or love? I enjoy running and hiking. I did 5 half marathons last year and was planning to start training for a full marathon but injuries and Covid got in the way of that. Before I biked I hiked many mountains in the Canadian Rockies. I summited Kilimanjaro in Kenya and hiked the Inca trail in Peru. Do you have any non sport hobbies that you do? I love wine, cooking and gardening. I have a highly energetic 3 year old dog named Chester and he takes up a lot of our time. How long have you been with NS Ride as a member and also as a ride leader? I joined the club a week after getting my first bike in 2016 and became a ride leader in 2018. I joined the Board of Directors in 2019 and love giving back to the community that has supported me over the last 5 years. Where is your favourite place to ride or favourite trail? Hmm this is tough... I have a few favourites. Unicorn DH at Mt Harper is at the top of my list, and John Deer has always been a favourite close to home. What’s your dream bike? I’m only on my second bike but I love my Yeti SB6. Anything else you’d like to add.. I was talked into doing a BC Enduro Race in 2019 that was 1800m elevation and over 30km at Harper Mountain outside Kamloops. I met so many amazing riders that day. The best part was at the end of the day a group of us were the last few riders of the day. We went down the last stage, a grass slalom, in a train and it was the best feeling to know I had finished!

If you’ve had a chance to meet and chat with Rhonda Brett, then you’ll probably agree with me that she is one of the kindest, humblest (it’s a word!), and most sincere people you know. She has a very cool job (ask her about it!), is an amazing rider, and knows the Squamish and Pemberton trails as well as anyone. Another great example of the truly amazing people that make up the NS Ride membership, here she is answering some questions we had... Thanks Rhonda! I starte...d biking seven years ago in Calgary where a friend of mine encouraged me to try the sport. I also love to kayak, camp, hike, volunteer, ski, snowshoe and fat bike. My yellow lab Maya is my faithful companion and the best friend I have ever had. I am an environmental emergency response officer with the Provincial Government. I have been an NS ride member for a few years now and a ride leader for this past summer. My favourite place to ride is Squamish (where I live ). My favourite trail to ride is Cream Puff in Pemberton. I love getting out riding and meeting new people. I especially enjoy encouraging women into the sport of mountain biking. Happy trails! Cheers. -Rhonda

Dear Members, The current situation with COVID-19 is preventing us from getting things rolling the way we would like for 2020. Although the season is currently on hold, we are watching the situation very closely to determine if and when our group rides can resume. As a club, we will certainly follow the direction of the provincial health authority, local trail associations and the land managers and we encourage our members to do the same. As they are later in the year, we ...have not cancelled any of our weekend retreats or accommodation bookings as of yet. We will make those decisions when appropriate. Please keep an eye on our Facebook page and website for updates, as they become available. Thank you all for your continued support!
