Summary of cases for July 14th, 2020: La Loche: 220 Total 214 Recovered 5 Fatalities... 1 Active CRDN 62 Total 62 Recovered 0 Active Good Evening everyone, As our active case numbers dwindle to zero, our community can start to think about creating our "new normal" and relaxing some of the safety measures that had been put in place to protect our Elderly and vulnerable populations. Dr. Rim has informed us that they are looking at resuming family visitations at Long Term Care which is great news for the residents and their families. We should know in the next few days what they have decided and what the guidelines will be. Tomorrow is the last day of work for myself and the rest of the EOC team as we will be closing the Emergency Operations Centre at Dene High School. We need to give the facility back to NLSD so they have time to prepare it for the next school year. Supplies will be moved to the old Friendship Centre building where the community can still pick up masks, gloves and small amounts of hand sanitizer if needed. Our last resident has recovered and moved from the Isolation Camp! Over the following week, we will be dismantling the camp and returning the trailers to both the Metis Nation of Saskatchewan and the Saskatchewan Public Safety Agency. Don't worry, plans have been made to set up isolation units again if our numbers start to rise. I would like to thank the community for their patience and understanding as we figured out how to run an Emergency Operations Centre in the middle of an outbreak. It was definitely a challenge. I would also like to thank the organizations that worked with us so that we could support each other's effort to provide services to the community. This type of collaboration and sharing of resources definitely helped make the all of our jobs more manageable. The partnership between the Northern Village of La Loche, Clearwater River Dene Nation and the Metis Nation of Saskatchewan (Metis Local # 39) was very strong. It gave us the opportunity to present a united front as we worked along side the other agencies in the battle against COVID-19 in our community. It's amazing what can be accomplished when people work together. In the days ahead, I urge everyone to remember that COVID-19 is still out there and could become dangerous in our community again. Please continue to practice social distancing, Wear a mask when you have to be within 2M of someone who doesn't live with you. Practice hand hygiene. It is especially important to practice these measures when you are out of town so you limit the possibility of bringing COVID-19 back with you. Probably one of the most important things you can do to help prevent another outbreak is to monitor yourself and those around you for symptoms. If you have symptoms STAY HOME, call 811 to get tested and then follow their directions. Take care everyone and stay safe!
