Riding Horses With White Men // today is your last chance to see Jae Sterling’s (@jaesterling) debut gallery show in the boutique, before it tours nationally. [The show focuses on] Sterling’s colourful paintings backed by a short film, audio composition and the essays in which he first developed some of the ideas explored in the exhibit. While the stories told may be deeply personal and specific to Sterling’s experiences as a member of the Jamaican diaspora in Alberta, his a...rtist’s statement also suggests a certain universality in its themes, specifically by asking questions artists that are caught between worlds will eventually be forced to ask. Can a history of violence be dissected through art? Why do we create art at all, especially in an ecosystem hostile to black culture? On March 6 from 5-10pm, we are hosting our first open house of the year, March 6th from 5-10pm and we would love to see you there! All THREE buildings will be open to the public: ... .. . the hotel || nvrlnd. is a non-profit arts foundation that refurbished an abandoned hotel into art studios. Our goal was to create and open minded, affordable, safe art space. This has led to us housing 45 artists that gather, create, experiment and share their work with the public. During ...the Open House artists will have their studios open so come cruise the hallways and see what they’ve been up to! ... .. . the boutique || Our current artist in residency Heather Buchanan has spent her time at nvrlnd. creating a new experimental body of work. We invite you to see the culmination of these ideas at her solo show - What the hell happened to her? opening March 6. ... .. . the shop || nvrlnd. has acquired a third building to assist artists in growing their practice. These workshop studios provide a larger footprint for a variety of mediums.
