Today is International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women. We educated ourselves on the history of violence, discussed supports that are available and wore purple to show we stand together.

Universal masking will be with us for awhile. In order to be able to share our smiling faces with residents we have created face pins. Our staff wear these pins with their name tags of hoping to continue to bring smiles to our residents. We couldn't forget #octoberfest2020! We celebrated with beer, soft pretzels and outdoor entertainment. Though it was a little windy outside we enjoyed the sounds, good friends and flavors from inside! We had many residents join in the fun including a previous resident of ours; Fran who just moved a way a few months ago to be closer to family! We miss you Fran! Today at #OakcrossingRetirementLiving we had a very exciting afternoon. Wil our Assistant Director of Environmental Services discovered a trapped kitten that had fallen in a grate. Wil came up with a clever idea to lower a reusable bag with food in it with the hopes that the kitten would go into the bag and could be brought up to safety. The first attempt at the plan worked! The little kitten jumped right into the bag and was pulled to safety. After a much needed tuna meal a...nd not really sure what we should do next, Wil decided to adopt the kitten. The unnamed kitten has had a bath and is bonding with his rescuer! Wil is unsure what to name this handsome boy and he is a looking for suggestions! What should Wil name his new fur baby!? They reached out all the Long-term care homes and retirement living homes in the city to bring smiles to all the seniors and staff! They started their day around 10am and made it to Oakcrossing in the afternoon, taking their classic cars and smiles home-to-home to make others smile!... It's so wonderful to see the selflessness and kindness shown to us and others during difficult times! It makes all the difference!
