Samuel Ball's marriage certificate is standard for the time, 1797. Nova Scotia did not keep vital statistics during the 1800's and so following his family tree has been difficult. February 1st marks the beginning of Nova Scotia African Heritage Month, click the link below to learn more. Oak Island is proud to play a very small role in that history. Samuel Ball, a Black Loyalist, made his way to the Chester area in the latter part of the 18th century and became a vibrant part of the community.
