Chief Public Health Officer Dr. Heather Morrison has confirmed one new positive case of COVID-19 in PEI, and it’s related to travel. The case is a man in his 50s who arrived in PEI after travel outside Atlantic Canada. He first tested negative and then later tested positive in routine testing. He is self-isolating with no symptoms and is being followed by public health daily. Contact tracing is complete. There are no public exposure locations in the province or air travel notifications related to this case. Prince Edward Island currently has eight active cases of COVID-19 and has had a total of 104 positive cases of COVID-19 since the onset of the pandemic.

Gerard: Today Dr. Morrison announced one new case of Covid-19 in Prince Edward Island, this new case is a female in her 20s who traveled to PEI from within Atlantic Canada. She has mild symptoms and is currently in self-isolation at home. Contact tracing is currently in the works and all close contacts of this new case are being told to self-isolate for 14 days. Anyone who has been at to the large Atlantic Superstore on University Avenue on Monday between 3pm and 4pm should ...monitor themselves for symptoms and should get tested if symptoms arise. The individual also visited two island restaurants on Saturday, November 21st. The first restaurant is Terra Rosa between 7:30pm and 9:30pm and the second Gahan House in Charlottetown between 9pm and 11pm. Public Health Nursing will be using the sign-in sheets at these locations to contact the patrons who may have been exposed. Staff who were working at these restaurants will also be tested and will be self-isolating until their results come back. Dr. Morrison says that islanders will know more about the case within the next 24 hours. Dr. Morrison says that she isn’t surprised by the new case but it is a representation on how important it is to adhere to PEI’s Public Health Measures as these measures are effective in breaking the chain of Covid-19. Dr. Morrison also reminded Islanders of Nova Scotia’s Monday Public Health Notice which stated that anyone (including islanders) who had been in Halifax at a bar or licensed establishment in the last two weeks should be tested for Covid-19 even if they do not have symptoms. Also anyone who has traveled to PEI from within Atlantic Canada just prior to PEI’s suspension of the Atlantic Bubble should take extra precautions for the next 14 days after returning to PEI. Those who have traveled to PEI just prior to the suspension should wear masks at all times outside their households, strongly utilize the public health measures, monitor themselves for symptoms and get tested as soon as symptoms arise. Also they should not partake in any gatherings or group activities. They can partake in work and school but must practice enhanced public health measures. In order to expand testing, Public Health will be expanding testing clinic hours today as both Summerside’s (Slemon Park) and Charlottetown’s (Park Street) testing clinics will now be opened until 8pm.
