The Apeks VX1 Mask has been voted the best single lens mask of 2020 by Scuba Diving magazine and their team of testers. Comfort topped the list of the many things test divers liked about the VX1. The frameless construction and velvety-soft skirt created a leak-free seal that kept it dry in all positions on a wide variety of face shapes. The low-volume design made it easy to equalise and clear, and the field of view was wide open. Come get yours today! ... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ujJzZ-kszIk&feature=youtu.be

Octopus aren't the only cephalopods you can find on a night dive here in BC! During the winter, you can find two species of squid, Stubby and Opalescent. Stubby squid bury themselves in the sand during the day, and can be found at night resting on top of the sand. The ones we've been finding lately are tiny- no bigger than your pinky finger nail! ... Opalescent squid can be a bit more elusive, and may be spotted swimming in the water column at night when they come to the surface from the deep to hunt. This species can grow up to 11 inches long, and can be curious enough to inspect divers and their lights. We've even been lucky enough to find their egg capsules on some recent night dives. Want to do some night diving at our world-class dive sites? Get in touch for a guide or a site description!

You heard it from the field experts! Sneak preview of the best multi use dive light for 2021. We’ve had the pleasure of testing and co-developing dive produ...cts with leading brands for 28 years. For light solutions we’ve worked with our friends at Big Blue for 9 years. And this autumn we’ve tested their latest year 2021 model VTL10K in the wrecks of Scandinavia, under the Great Wall in China and in the caves of Yucatan, Mexico. With stunning 10,000 lumen 120 degree beam for video/photo and 1300 lumen 10 degree spot, the VTL10K is currently by far the best multi-use primary-video light in the market. We are all looking for an end to this strange year 2020 and the hope of a new year with positive outcomes. Our new dive charter vessel will be ready to go in January and we are starting to take bookings (subject to Covid-19 restrictions). Today we would like to offer our regular dive community patrons an opportunity for some discounted dive trips. ... Starting January 1st, 2021, charters will be available at a cost of $75 per dive. For the frequent divers we are looking at two options for discounted packages. Option #1 will be an annual $250 membership that will allow you to book standby seats on trips for half the regular rate or $37.50 (plus tax) per dive for the calendar year. (If you do 52 dives in a year the cost per dive can be as low as $42.31 per dive plus tax.) Option #2 will allow divers to purchase a 10X dive card for 20% off the regular rate ($600 plus tax) and not on standby. ($60 per dive). There is no expiry date on pre-paid dive cards.
Launch day is getting closer and closer. Work is continuing at Eaglecraft Aluminum Boats and they are doing a lot of the final rigging. The engines are in place and the cabin is coming along nicely. The liferaft is in place for that 'never going to happen' situation where we have to abandon ship. Captain Roger and First Mate Greg (he's not a captain yet) were excited to have time to inspect the progress. Fingers crossed it may be in the water before Christmas. Please Santa Claus! Can we have our new boat for a Christmas Day Dive?

From a night dive at Argonaut Wharf.
Is there a charity group out there that would like a bunch of cans and bottles to return for deposit? The diver community are doing a cleanup of McIvor Lake this Sunday and we know from past experience that there will be lots of cans and bottles collected off the bottom. Contact me if you can have some volunteers available Sunday, Oct 4th around noon to 2:00pm available to clean and sort some bounty! Contact Roger at 250-203-2720.
We are now a SHEARWATER dealer !
McIvor Lake Cleanup SUNDAY OCT 4 Project Aware we are going to do a lake/beach cleanup at McIvor Lake rain or shine on SUNDAY OCT 4 from 10AM-1:00 PM There will be a BBQ as well.... Looking forward to seeing how much garbage we can get this time.
We had a morning inspection of progress on the new dive boat. Greg and Roger stopped in at Eaglecraft Aluminum Boats and can't help but get excited to see the progress made over the last week and a half since we were last checking out the build. The cabin and hull are being built separately but will be joined together soon which will really show the spacious layout for divers. If all goes according to plan we may be diving off of ***** ******** before the end of 2020. ("***** ********" might be a hint of the name of the new vessel.)
Here's a couple of squat lobsters to help you get through your day. Squat lobsters can be found in deep waters, and we often find them in the growths and tubes of ancient, slow-growing cloud sponges. We are so lucky to have these in our local waters!
We have new toques and hats in! Come and get them while they last.
Today's dive at Argonaut Wharf did not disappoint. A handful of giant pacific octopus, grunt sculpins, nudibranchs... What more can you ask for? Come exploring with us at the amazing local sites in Discovery Passage!
