For our clients with appointments today...the City is removing one of the giant diseased Elms very close to the clinic today. We are still accessible, but parking is extremely limited and the street in front of the clinic is currently blocked off. We suggest giving yourself extra time to get to your appointment. It is also very loud - if you prefer to reschedule, please give us a call at 250-248-0008. If you have a large dog with mobility issues, please let us know and the workers will make arrangements to allow for parking in front of the clinic.

It's always best to start our day with a puppy....especially one as cute as little Cole! Okay, maybe not so little...Cole had a really fun visit today - full of yummy treats (which ended up all over his nose), little naps and lots of attention. Thanks for brightening our day, Cole!

* found *** Koka is MIA Please keep a look out ( ear out) for her around Pym, Morrison , Ballenas area ... I’m suspecting she is stuck far up a tree or may have been stolen ( she would be the worst cat to steal as she is very loud, needy and loyal). She’s been gone 3 days now Super friendly ! Mostly afraid of cars or dogs. We’ve recently moved for the first time so she also doesn’t know the area that well See more

If you've found some extra time on your hands, maybe your cat could use a new couch?

Oh my goodness! So much cuteness this afternoon with little Jelly - while she looks super serious, she really is the most adorable kitten! And she gives great hugs.

EXCITING NEWS!! We are very happy to welcome Dr. Connie Beauchamp to the Oceanside team! Dr. Connie Beauchamp was born and raised on Vancouver Island. After years of working as an animal health technologist in Edmonton, Alberta she decided to pursue her dream of becoming a veterinarian. In 2006 she began her Bachelor of Science studies at the University of Alberta and in 2013 she graduated with great distinction from the Western College of Veterinary Medicine. Following gradu...ation, Dr. Beauchamp moved back to Vancouver Island and spent 7 years at a small animal practice in Nanaimo before deciding to join the team at Oceanside in the summer of 2020. Professionally Dr. Beauchamp has special interests in ophthalmology and internal medicine. In her free time, she enjoys gardening, cooking, and exploring the great outdoors with her husband Tracy and their dog Owen.

One frequently asked question at the clinic is "Why do I still see fleas after treating my pet with a flea preventive product?" - check out this article for great tips on how fleas work and why it can take three months to treat the problem. Also, make sure you are using a veterinary recommended product as many store products are lacking in efficacy.

Another confirmed rabies positive bat in the area. Please make sure your pet is up to date on their rabies vaccine!

Oceanside Animal Hospital 24.06.2020

To our wonderful clients - we are so appreciative and thankful for your understanding and flexibility as we continue to observe COVID-19 protocols and recommendations to keep everyone safe. There is more stress than usual these days but you brighten our days with your kindness and your love of animals! To our clients who have been less understanding, please think about your words and actions. Our team of devoted animal lovers is under a lot more stress than usual. If your behaviour is found to be unacceptable, we will need to ask you to seek your veterinary care elsewhere.

We are happy to announce that we are now allowing clients back into the building in a limited fashion. However, for everyone's safety, we are following a strict protocol for maintaining social distancing. Please let us know if you would prefer to remain in your vehicle while your pet is examined and we will be happy to accommodate. **Prior to scheduling an in-person appointment, please review the detailed information provided on our website.**

ALERT: We have recently sent away a bat from the QB/Parksville area that has tested POSITIVE FOR RABIES. This bat did have contact with a local dog. Luckily, th...e dog was up to date with a rabies vaccination, and the owners were very cautious. Everyone in the household will be OK! Please make sure that your pets are up to date on their rabies vaccinations!! Rabies is a rare, but very serious and potentially fatal virus - but infection can be prevented in your pets with an effective vaccine! It is estimated that at least 13% of bats on Vancouver Island carry rabies. Rabid bats can exhibit abnormal behvaiour (ex. flying around during the day, spending time on the ground) and weakness that make them easier to catch. Outdoor cats and dogs that spend time outdoors are at highest risk - however, we have had multiple clients tell us that bats have flown into their house or apartment through an open door or window. This means that even indoor cats could make contact with a bat. For clients and patients of our hospital, despite COVID-19, we are seeing patients for wellness exams and vaccines now. If you are unsure of your pet's vaccination status, please contact your veterinarian. If a human in your household has had physical contact with a bat, please contact your doctor immediately for direction. If your pet has had suspected contact with a bat, contact your veterinarian right away. Under direction of your veterinarian, you may be instructed to obtain the bat so that it can be sent away for rabies testing. DO NOT TOUCH THE BAT WITH BARE HANDS. Bats play a very important role in our ecosystem, and deserve much respect for keeping the insect population under control. Not all of them carry infectious diseases. If you see a bat in the wild, and there is no risk of exposure, please leave them undisturbed. Here is a link with some great information: http://www.bccdc.ca/health-info/diseases-conditions/rabies
