Candles are a great addition to your holiday decorations but if not looked after properly the results can be devastating! Place candles in a sturdy holder and make sure the flame is covered by a glass shade. Make sure candles are out of the reach of children and can’t be knocked over by pets. Also be mindful of the placement of festive candles, do not place them next to any materials that can burn. http://www.mcscs.jus.gov.on.ca//Holiday%20Fire%20Safety%20
IMPORTANT: The Leeds, Grenville & Lanark District Health Unit (LGLDHU) is moving into the Yellow Protect level. This formalizes the requirement for all busine...sses to have a safety plan in place for both employees and customers, and means stronger public health restrictions for many settings. What to do if the CO Alarm Sounds? 1. If your CO alarm sounds, and you or other occupants suffer from symptoms of CO poisoning, get everyone out of the home immediately. Then call 9-1-1 or your local emergency services number from outside the building. 2. If your CO alarm sounds, and no one is suffering from symptoms of CO poisoning, check to see if the battery needs replacing, or the alarm has reached its "end-of-life" before calling 9-1-1.
Time to Change your Clocks and the Batteries in all Smoke and Carbon Monoxide Alarms. Clocks will fall back one hour at 2am on November 1 and we want residents to install new batteries in their smoke and carbon monoxide alarms when they change their clocks. In order for smoke and carbon monoxide alarms to do their job, they need to have working batteries!
We had the Carleton Place elves in yesterday. They collected enough food for 2,181 meals (3,115 lbs. for those who are counting)! And just to top it up, there w...as $500 cash for the extras. Thank you Carleton Place Recreation & Culture Department and the Ocean Wave Fire Company for making this happen! #awesomestcoummitiesever #weallwin
Congrats to Pat and Shannon Tardiff on winning our Fire Prevention Week like, share and tag contest! Thanks for the overwhelming support from our community throughout the week helping us spread fire safety messages. Thanks again to all that entered and participated in the contest!
Carbon monoxide (CO) is invisible odourless deadly gas. The most common symptoms of CO poisoning are headache, dizziness, weakness, upset stomach, vomiting, chest pain, and confusion. CO symptoms are often described as flu-like. If you breathe in a lot of CO it can make you pass out and or become fatal. Beat the silent killer! http://ontario.ca/daez

With everything going on in the world right now fire safety can be overlooked in our homes. Dryers are easily forgotten about and we want to remind you that forgetting about your dryer can have devastating results. Take time to clean and inspect your dryer. Follow these tips and please reach out if you have any questions or concerns. Inspect and clean the lint screen after each load of laundry. The build-up of lint can lead to a fire. Regularly remove lint from ducts and ...exhaust vents. Regularly inspect the outdoor vent to ensure it is unobstructed. Turn the dryer off if you leave home or when you go to bed. Keep the area around the dryer clear of items that can burn. The Ocean Wave Fire Company responded to a fully involved structure fire at approximately 1:00 a.m. on Saturday, July 25th, at a two-story home on Patterson Cre...scent in Carleton Place. Mutual aid was activated calling on the Mississippi Mills Fire Department and Beckwith Fire Department to assist with the fire. I want to thank all of our firefighters and those from our neighbouring departments, the Ontario Provincial Police (O.P.P) and Lanark County Paramedic Service for responding and working together at the scene to contain the fire, investigate, and to keep everyone safe, says Fire Chief Pascal Meunier. Firefighters worked into the late afternoon ensuring hot spots were out, cleaning up, and assisting with the fire investigation. The fire was contained to the property which included the house, garage and a vehicle. Firefighters gained quick control of the fire and prevented flames from spreading to neighbouring properties. Some heat damage occurred on one neighbouring home. No injuries were reported as a result of the fire, but damage to the house of origin is extensive. The Ontario Fire Marshal’s office was also called to the scene to conduct a fire investigation along with the O.P.P to try and determine the cause of the fire. The investigation is ongoing at this time and the cause is not yet known.
We were honored to help the Lanark County Food Bank-The Hunger Stop with some kitchen utensils to help us spread the word on kitchen fire safety! #firepreventionweek
We have decided to lift the fire ban to allow small camp fires! Please remember to follow the open air burn bylaw. Small campfires must be in a contained device with a water source close by to extinguish the fire. Please monitor wind and weather conditions to be respectful of your neighbors. Any questions regarding the bylaw please contact 613-257-5526.... https://carletonplace.ca//By-Law%2088-2004%20Fireworks%20( See more

**TOTAL FIRE BAN** Effective immediately, the Town of Carleton Place is under a total fire ban due to extremely dry conditions, hot weather and low water levels. This burn ban restricts the use of any open air burning NO CAMPFIRES! Any devices that are designed to cook food with wood pellets or charcoal, such as smokers or grills, are permitted for use. Any cooking devices, outdoor fireplaces and fuel-fired appliances that use propane or natural gas are also exempt from t...he burn ban. Why are we implementing a fire ban? Drought conditions have caused extremely dry conditions which increase the chances of a rapid spread of fire Severe heat conditions may limit the fire department’s ability to provide services and exposes firefighters to increased health risks including heat stroke and fatigue Any questions or concerns, feel free to contact us at 613-257-5526. For an emergency, call 911! This ban will remain in effect until conditions have improved. We will update residents when we lift the ban. I want to send out my thanks to both stations of the Mississippi Mills Fire Department for their quick and professional response to the devastating fire in Almo...nte last night. My thanks also goes to the Ocean Wave Fire Company from Carleton Place, the Beckwith Fire Department and the Lanark Highlands Fire Service for their support, as well as the Lanark OPP and the Lanark County Paramedic Service for their assistance. First responders provide service that is essential for the safety of our community and residents. Since the declaration of the COVID-19 pandemic, protecting the public has become an even more dangerous job. Your response to the many calls this spring and your quick action at last night’s fire provides confidence and assurance to the community that they continue to be in good hands. On behalf of the Municipality of Mississippi Mills, I thank each of you for your continued and dedicated service. We are fortunate to have friends and neighbours in our community and beyond who are always ready to answer the call in times of need. Thank you for your continued service. It took approximately four hours last night to bring the Malcolm Street fire under control. Damage is expected to exceed $750,000 and the cause of the fire remains under investigation. Anyone with information related to this fire is asked to contact the police. Although three homes have been destroyed, we are grateful there were no injuries as a result of the fire. Please see attached Media Release from the Mississippi Mills Fire Department. For anyone wishing to help those affected by the Malcolm Street fire, please consider a donation to the MMTogether Community Fund through Carebridge Community Support.
