Feature Project: Canada’s First Zoo Waste Project Primary Digester Completed Canada’s first zoo waste project, ZooShare, achieved a construction milestone with the completion of the installation of its Octaform primary digester tank. This primary digester measures 1963 cubic meters or 518,570 gallons and will use a combination of animal waste from the Toronto Zoo and food spoilage from local grocery chains. The project is expected to process over 17,000 tonnes of waste per ...year and generate up to 4.1 Gigawatts of green electricity per year. Octaform was chosen versus cast-in-place concrete due to less maintenance, improved service life, and corrosion resistance. Additionally, the Octaform solution was less capital intensive than other tank solutions. Construction of the 118-foot diameter, 26-foot high storage tank is now well underway and expected to complete in the next weeks.
