It is with great sadness that we inform you of the passing of former Bear Ashton Kimberely. Ashton passed away on May 21st at the age of 23. She was a valued member of our 2011 & 2012 team. Please keep Ashton’s family in your thoughts as they go through this difficult time. Ashton played lock in Grade 9 and even started our lone playoff game that year. In 2012, she was a member of our D10 championship team. Her grit and tenacity on the pitch served her well for the many cha...llenges that life sent her way. Once a Bear, always a Bear and we feel lucky to have known and fought alongside Ashton. Due to Covid 19, there will be no visitation or celebration of life at this time. Ashton will be laid to rest at Forest Lawn Cemetery. Donations can be made to Family Transition Place on behalf of Ashton. Ashton is survived by her son, Luka. https://imfunerals.com//Ashton-JOHNSTON-KIM/obituary.html
Recruiting for 2021!
Happy birthday to this warrior: Eryn Bonney-Brookman! A little birdy told me that she was now playing flanker....

The 2019 season is done and now it’s time to hand out some hardware: Our MVP is Rebecca Hodder and our Sportsmanship award goes to Lily Burgess. Lily also wins the Campus Life award, just like her big sister, Evelyn Burgess, did 6 years ago.
Here's how you score tries against John F. Ross:
2019 Bears - D10 Finalists
The 2019 Bears' rugby season came to a close yesterday after a 59-14 loss to the perennial provincial powerhouse John F. Ross Royals. This may seem like a lopsided score but consider the following: this is a +30 point turnaround in our favour from our previous game versus Ross AND we outscored Ross 14-12 in the second half. Scorers for the Bears were Savannah Trafananko and Grace Hearns. Hannah MacLeod kicked two converts.... Holly Bonney-Brookman was named MVP for the match. Good luck to Ross at CWOSSA this Friday. The future for this team is so bright - almost half of the team this year were rookies and they still made it to the finals. D10 is on notice and the 2020 season can't come soon enough. Stay tuned for year-end award winners and a statistical season review.
The Bears are going back to the D10 Finals! We traveled to previously undefeated Erin today and knocked them off in the semi-finals: 42-17. Holly Bonney-Brookman added two more tries to her impressive season while Laura Kampen scored her first ever try, Becky Hodder added two more, Savannah Trafananko got a well-deserved try and so did Riley "Three Tries" Vander Veen. Hannah MacLeod added the lone convert.... The Bears will play in the D10 final versus provincial powerhouse John F. Ross next Wednesday at Eastview Park in Guelph. Kickoff is set for 5:15. This will be our fourth trip the finals in the past seven years. Not too shabby. GO BEARS!!!!!!!!
Yesterday, the Bears started off the 2019 D10 playoffs with a resounding win versus our local rivals, the vastly improved Westside Thunder, 46-10. Holly Bonney-Brookman set a single-season Bears record for most points in a game with 34 (6 tries & 2 converts) pacing the Bears attack. Captain Becky Hodder also added a try with Halle Richardson sealing the victory scoring her first try of the year to end the match. Kelsi Drensek then attempted her first ever convert and split t...he uprights with a beauty of a boot. Congratulations must be extended to the Westside Thunder who improve with every match and need to be proud of their effort and skill this year. The Bears now are on to the semi-finals with a match against the unbeaten Erin Raiders, at Erin, on Thursday afternoon at 3 pm. GO BEARS!
After a tough loss at JF Ross earlier in the week, the Bears closed out the D10 regular season with a big win versus Fergus today: 20-5. This win sealed second place for the home side and avenged their playoff upset last year at the hands of the Falcons. On a slick and rainy pitch, Holly Bonney-Brookman hit twice in the first half to give the Bears a 10-0 lead going into the break. Rebecca Hodder and Daniela Aboy-Fernandez scored in the second half to salt the game away. This... win sets up a quarter final match-up next week versus the winner of tomorrow's Westside/Mount Forrest game. GO BEARS!!!! See more
On Friday, the Baby Bears competed in the annual Spring Fling Tourney hosted by St. Mary's in downtown Kitchener. The Bears got off to a great start beating the hosts 10-5 behind tries from rookies Kiera Filletti, her first ever, and Emily Mantione, her THIRD of the year so far. After that, the Baby Bears faced stiff competition against two varsity squads. They lost both games 25-5 but showed lots of heart and fight. Not-s0 Baby Bear Holly Bonney-Brookman scored in the game... versus North Park and Grade 9 Sophia Bonellos scored her first ever try versus White Oaks. The Bears are back at it Tuesday at John F. Ross versus the defending D10 and CWOSSA champion Royals who also secured a silver medal at OFSSA last year. GO BEARS!
Yesterday, a mixed squad of Senior and Junior Bears took on the Westside Thunder and emerged with a 27-12 win. Savannah Trafananko started us off early with a powerful try that was followed up by Riley Vander Veen's first ever try. She wasn't done, though, as she scored another later in the match and earned the moniker "Riley Two-Tries". Hannah MacLeod, with one shoe, and Holly Bonney-Brookman rounded out the tries with Grace Hearns adding a convert. ... Maddie Roud earned the Bears first yellow card of the season :( The Bears are back at it tomorrow when the travel to KW looking to three-peat at the Spring Blast tourney hosted by St. Marys.
Yesterday, the Bears defended their home field with a 39-0 win over Centennial. Lily Burgess and Sarah Chopp scored in the first half to give the home side a 10-0 edge at half. After the break, the Bears turned it on and added 29 straight points. Chopp added another score while Savannah Trafananko scored once, Hannah MacLeod scored twice and Holly Bonney-Brookman scored the longest try in Bears history with a 99 yard scamper to end the game. She also pitched in with 2 converts. The girls are back in action tomorrow for a rescheduled game versus Westside at the U of G.
The 2019 Baby Bears went 2-1 at the CDDHS Junior Tournament yesterday. We began the day beating JF Ross 'B' 12-5 behind two tries and a convert from Grace Hearns. Following that, we beat the hosts 17-5 with Hearns scoring two more tries and convert. Grade 9 Chloe Metherall sealed the victory with a late try, her first ever!... The final was a loss to JF Ross 'A' 20-0 after Ross combined the top players from both of their squads. The girls battled hard but a long, wet, tough day took its toll. We're back at it Monday for our D10 home opener against Centennial at 2pm on the main field.
