The 2020 spring "Tattoo" edition of The Link Line, is now available at https://bit.ly/3bSpZ6l
Achievement, commitment, tribute, honour, pride -- the tattoos inked into the legs, thighs, arms, shoulders and other body parts of mine rescuers say it all and more. Read more about them in the 2020 spring edition of The Link Line - https://bit.ly/3bSpZ6l
The cancellation of this year's mine rescue competitions means Mine Rescue Officers, like Grant Saunders in Red Lake, have time for other pursuits. Stay home. Stay safe.
Because the health of mine rescue volunteers is as important as the safety of mine rescue volunteers, OMR is cancelling the 2020 district and provincial mine rescue competitions due to the current pandemic. We thank and acknowledge the many who study and train, and the mines that support them, not just for competition but to be prepared for when needed. You will always be the most important part of OMR. Stay well!
Now that's mutual aid. Lake Shore Gold (a subsidiary of Panamerican Silver) mine rescue volunteer Faheema Velji-Shears (standing) came to the aid of her husband, Glencore Kidd Operations volunteer Scott Shears (tied up), during a joint ropes training exercise at Bell Creek Mine under the direction of MRO Danny Taillefer Wednesday.
Show and tell time. Show and tell us about your mine rescue ink. Send a photo to us at [email protected]. We’ll feature some in the next issue of The Link Line (due late April/early May) and create a special Facebook photo album. Also tell us your mine, and especially about your tat why you got it, the design concept, and maybe why you placed it where you did (bicep, shoulder, calf, etc. . .). BTW, thanks to Adam Weagle, Jim Lundrigan, and Bryan Wilson for previously displaying their Mine Rescue Pride.
The sign on the Ontario Mine Rescue Shop -- https://bit.ly/2T9yfqw -- now reads "Open". The store sells Ontario Mine Rescue branded items caps, T-shirts, polo shirts, hoodies, and more frequently requested by volunteers and supporters. The current collection of items will be available for order until March 31, when the orders will be processed for delivery, which will take approximately three weeks. A new collection of items will be posted in April.
Kudos to the Laurentian University Mine Rescue (LUMR) Club currently competing and representing Ontario at the University of British Columbia's inaugural student mine rescue competition. UBC, the University of Alberta and the Colorado School of Mines are also competing.
Southern District Mine Rescue Officer Dan Rulli opened the afternoon session of Workplace Safety North's one-day symposium on Electric Battery Vehicle Safety in Sudbury. Rulli addressed issues battery powered vehicles pose to emergency response and mine rescue.
From competition secrets to something Mine Rescue Officers can and will talk about -- critical incident stress. Bill Tibbo, a clinical and consulting trauma and crisis management specialist with Bill Tibbo & Associates, is presenting a course this week to help MROs help themselves and support mine rescue volunteers. Yes, we can talk . . .
Don't bother asking, they will not answer. Ontario Mine Rescue Officers are in Sudbury this week for training, and among the other topics of conversation, an update on this year's district competition scenario. Everyone else has to wait until May.
Do you know someone qualified? Perhaps yourself? Ontario Mine Rescue's Emergency Services Training Division has a vacancy for an Emergency Services Specialist. For information visit our website or https://bit.ly/2SwLJw9
