We've got photos to share from Day 1 of the wellness clinic currently in Peterborough! Way to go team--you've got this! In partnership with the Peterborough Humane Society, the SPCA Mobile Animal Wellness Services Unit is stationed outside their facility from Nov. 24-26 and has begun the first of 75 prebooked spay/neuter appointments for local cats. That's contributing to the prevention of about 4,600 potentially unwanted kittens. Thank you to Pet Valu for providing a grant toward this program through the Giving Back Project!

Humane education treats children as changemakers and leaders through the three major components through fostering empathy; developing critical thinking skills; and taking meaningful action. Through engaging in humane education we can learn how to apply both the heart and mind to arrive at thoughtful and creative solutions that create a better world for all: https://bit.ly/36NtTvI

In partnership with the Peterborough Humane Society, the Ontario SPCA and Humane Society is bringing its SPCA Mobile Animal Wellness Services Unit to Peterborough this week for a three-day spay/neuter clinic to help reduce pet overpopulation. The 38-foot SPCA Mobile Animal Wellness Services Unit will be stationed outside the Peterborough Humane Society from Nov. 24-26. Appointments were pre-booked through the Peterborough Humane Society and a total of 75 cats are scheduled t...o be spayed or neutered during the clinic. Here's an update, shared by the Ontario SPCA Barrie Animal Centre about sweet Cheeto, from his forever family: "We've been spending all our free time giving him endless love and kisses. Once we got home it took him all of 2 hours to explore every nook and cranny and we are certain he was very pleased with his new space. He used his box right away and certainly still has the appetite that he came with. He has easily doubled if not tripled in size in just the 5 short weeks he's... been here. We are so in love with our sweet boy! He has just the right mix of sugar and spice. We love and encourage his spunky playful side but will of course need to keep working on staying off the counters. Once all the toys are safely stored under the couch for dad to retrieve later we love how he joins us at the foot of the bed each night purring the loudest purr for all the village to hear. He always snuggles into the blanket that smells and reminds him of his brothers and sisters and loved ones back in Barrie. He loves going out in the yard with his harness on, he loves watching the birds, chasing the squirrels that come close and is practicing his hunting skills on bugs and butterflies. He truly couldn't have been a better fit for us! Our home has once again been filled with the love and excitement that I think you can only get from the love of an orange cat. Thank you again for all that you do. THANK YOU SO MUCH for all the stuff you supplied us with to get started with Cheeto that was so generous and we are so grateful for everything.

The scientific evidence is clear that pigs are intelligent animals; they feel pain and living in gestation crates causes them physical and psychological pain and suffering. Will you take three minutes to complete a short survey and advocate for the pigs? https://bit.ly/3nGBfYW

Last year, we were able to donate $3,500 to Royal Canadian Legion branches across the province through the sale of our Animal in War pins. The pin is designed to be worn as a complement to the poppy to remember and honour the animals who served. This year’s design features the pigeon, a bird that kept the line of wartime communication open when human technology couldn’t. We remember. Funds from the sale of the pin help provide care for animals in need, as well as support our veterans. Due to the global pandemic, the Ontario SPCA has raised its commitment to veterans in 2020 by donating $2.50 from each pin sold. The Animals in War pins are available online at https://bit.ly/33FrkM5r, or by calling 1-888-668-7722 ext. 360.

It's Adopt a Senior Pet Month and we'd like to introduce you to Tundra, 13, looking for a home out of our Ontario SPCA Barrie Animal Centre. At 22.8 pounds, she has a bit of a weight management issue, but was given a clean bill of health by the vet. To help her stay healthy, weight loss will have to happen slowly and preferably on a veterinary weight-loss diet. Email [email protected] if you think you could make a place in your heart for Tundra. She wants nothing more than to curl up on her human's lap and watch TV. Meet all of our animals during #iAdopt for the Holidays by checking out the participating animal centres: https://bit.ly/3kbEEwI.

It's #RVTMonth and we’re celebrating our amazing RVTs: Meet Aaron, Registered Veterinary Technician at the OSPCA Provincial Education & Animal Centre: "I've been an RVT for 9 years, working with animals for over 20 years. I particularly enjoy working to make scared animals feel more comfortable and relaxed. Shelters have an enormous potential to influence the emotional well-being of animals, and I am grateful to work with an organization that respects this aspect of animal ca...re. "I'm also responsible for monitoring and addressing the physical health of the patients at PEAC, coordinating veterinary visits and treatments, ensuring all animals available for adoption are neutered/spayed, vaccinated and dewormed, working with the foster and working cat programs, coaching and working with the Animal Care staff, and a variety of other tasks that help keep the shelter running. "Working to make an animal’s transition into the centre, their time at the centre, and their eventual placement into a home as smooth and enjoyable as possible is quite gratifying. We have a good team here, and I'm happy to be a part of the Ontario SPCA." #proudlyrvt

Small animals such as rabbits, hamsters, gerbils, and mice make wonderful furry friends. Since they are so small you might assume that it is okay to handle them from the start. It's #RVTMonth and we’re celebrating our amazing RVTs: Meet Kimberly, Registered Veterinary Technician at the OSPCA Provincial Education & Animal Centre: "I've been an RVT since 2013 but working with animals for 20+ years. An RVT is essentially a ‘nurse’ except we work with animals. "My role is to ensure that both the physical and behavioural well-being of each animal in our care is addressed appropriately. ... "I really enjoy working in an animal centre setting as I can be the voice for those that don’t have one. I like that I can deal with an assortment of medical cases, but also get to know the patient on a personal level." #proudlyrvt
