A band of snow will develop over the regions early Wednesday morning and continue eastward through Kingston in the morning. The snow may possibly affect travel as far east as Cornwall. Travel may be hazardous for several hours in the morning due to accumulating snow, slippery conditions and reduced visibility. Generally 2 to 4 centimetres of snow is expected with locally higher amounts closer to the shorelines of Lake Ontario. Temperatures are expected to rise above freezing during the middle to late morning and precipitation will become light or mix with showers giving improved travel conditions. Weather advisory in effect for: Pickering - Oshawa - Southern Durham Region Winter Weather Travel Advisory in effect for today.... Heavy snow currently occurring along and north of Highway 407 may be causing reduced visibilities. This reduction in visibility together with snow quickly accumulating on roads could potentially lead to hazardous driving conditions. The snow should taper to scattered flurries in the afternoon. The heaviest snowfall is generally expected north of Highway 401. Snow squall warning in effect for: Goderich - Bluewater - Southern Huron County Wingham - Blyth - Northern Huron County... Snow squalls are expected. Under the snow squall bands, visibilities will be significantly reduced due to the heavy snow combined with blowing snow, and snow will quickly accumulate. Lake effect snow squall bands are coming onshore between Grand Bend and Port Albert and are expected to intensify later this morning. The snow squalls will continue through the day and into tonight. Local snowfall amounts of 15 to 20 cm in 12 hours are likely. Snow squalls will taper off early Wednesday morning. Snow squalls cause weather conditions to vary considerably; changes from clear skies to heavy snow within just a few kilometres are common. Lake effect snow is developing over Lake Huron bringing snow for those in the snow belt. A snow squall watch and winter travel advisory is in effect as lake snow intensifies later this afternoon. Weather summary for Ontario and the National Capital Region issued by Environment Canada at 7:00 a.m. EDT Saturday 24 October 2020.... Discussion. A Colorado Low brought a variety of weather to much of southern and northeastern Ontario on Friday, October 23rd. Southern Ontario basked in temperatures more typical of summer, with several record high temperatures being set. In addition to the warm and humid conditions, several supercell thunderstorms affected areas near Georgian Bay during the afternoon with numerous reports of large hail up to the size of golf balls. Some of the communities affected include Orillia, Wyevale, Penetanguishene, Oro-Medonte, Waubaushene and Midhurst. Over northeastern Ontario where temperatures remained in the single digits, a soaking rainfall occurred with many stations reporting in excess of 50 mm. Areas farther north from Wawa to Timmins were sufficiently cold to receive several centimetres of snow. Severe thunderstorm warning in effect for: Uxbridge - Beaverton - Northern Durham Region Fenelon Falls - Balsam Lake Park - Northern Kawartha Lakes Lindsay - Southern Kawartha Lakes... Haliburton - Minden - Southern Haliburton County Oxtongue Lake - Fort Irwin - Northern Haliburton County An line of strong to locally severe thunderstorms is moving eastward through the regions. A few winds gusts as high as 90 km/h are possible with these storms. Brief torrential downpours, frequent cloud-to-ground lightning, and hail will also be associated with some of these storms. Take cover immediately, if threatening weather approaches. Large hail can damage property and cause injury. Intense lightning is likely with any thunderstorm that develops. Remember, severe thunderstorms can produce tornadoes. Avoid areas of the building that could be affected by falling debris such as tree limbs. Lightning kills and injures Canadians every year. Lake Simcoe vicinity and to the northeast, and the shoreline of eastern Lake Erie now has the greatest strong wind and hail threat. This is the main band of thunderstorms along the front. Conditions improve after the front clears your area (with dropping temps tonight). The rest of the storms have weakened some but will still hold enough energy to continue being gusty. Expecting storms at the west end of Lake Ontario by 8pm or so. Further tornado threats are not evident right now, but it's being monitored.

A narrow area, generally from Ottawa to Cornwall and points eastward into Quebec, will have the greatest risk for damaging winds, hail, and an isolated tornado in these storms.
