Did you get the AlertReady test on your phone, TV, etc? To clarify, we have absolutely nothing to do with that test. Just curious if you received it. And no, it won't be on our app. :) - Adam

Three fireballs have been spotted in Ontario during the past week. Did you see any of them? Did you know that you can report your observations of fireballs to the International Meteor Organization or the American Meteor Society and help researchers? Please see the link below for video and more details including which one exploded causing a shock wave that produced a sonic boom and was measured on seismic instruments: https://instantweather.ca//fireballs-light-up-ontario-skie

Did you see one or both of the fireballs reported Monday evening? One was spotted around 7:30 pm (preliminary path travelling NW over Brockville, ON). The second one was seen at around 8:30 pm (preliminary path travelling WNW south of Syracuse, NY). - Teresa K.

SOUTHERN ONTARIO SNOW SQUALL UPDATE VALID: Tuesday, Nov 17th, 2020 Good early morning everyone!... Just a quick update and forecast map for the snow squalls that are expected to develop Tuesday morning and continue throughout the day southeast of Georgian Bay and Lake Huron. We're already seeing some lake effect snow activity off Georgian Bay through northern Simcoe County and that will further strengthen through the night. This band will continue to bring accumulating snowfall to this small zone from Midland to Orillia with the potential for as much 10-15cm of accumulation. We expect the squall to sink southward late in the morning and could bring a few hours of heavy snow to as far south as Barrie and Bradford just before noon. The higher elevations south of Collingwood like the Blue Mountains may also see this as well as. Total accumulation here will range from 2-6cm with locally up to 10cm. Turning to Lake Huron, a fairly strong squall is expected to develop with a northwest flow either during the late morning or early afternoon. This will bring intense near-zero visibility and rapidly accumulating snowfall to regions around Kincardine and Goderich. The squall will occasionally shift around throughout the afternoon and evening so that should help spread around the accumulation rather than having one focused zone of extreme accumulation. We expect that the lake effect activity will come to an end overnight and early Wednesday morning. The hardest-hit zone includes Wingham and Clinton with the potential to pick up as much as 12-20cm by Wednesday morning. Surrounding areas can expect between 5-15cm - refer to the map for more location-specific details. Be sure to drive according to the conditions if you plan on travelling in the affected regions! Conditions can go from clear to a complete white-out in a matter of seconds so you will need to be able to adjust quickly. - Brennen P.

Just a heads up that the Alert Ready system will be tested in just under an hour at 12:55 PM. This means you’ll receive an emergency test alert on your phone along with on radio and TV. Don’t panic! It’s just a test :)... - Brennen P.

Hi! How are we doing tonight? After a fairly mild day which likely melted a lot of the snow that we received yesterday and early this morning, the temperatures are heading back to below the freezing mark. Overnight lows will range from -4 to -8C so all that melted snow and moisture will likely refreeze on untreated surfaces. Expect some icy road and sidewalk conditions into tomorrow morning. It shouldn't be a major issue but just be careful out there if you're travelling ar...ound. Besides that, our eyes turn towards a system that could bring another round of accumulating snowfall and messy weather to Southern Ontario starting late Tuesday and lasting into Wednesday. At this point, it doesn't appear to be a major storm with maybe as much as 6-12cm of accumulation through parts of Central and Eastern Ontario. Temperatures should remain just warm enough for Southwestern Ontario and the Golden Horseshoe to start off with wet snow but quickly turning over to heavy rainfall overnight into Wednesday. By Wednesday afternoon, all of Southern Ontario should have transitioned over to heavy rain which will continue into Thursday. Total rainfall accumulation between 10-25mm looks possible by the end of Thursday. We'll have a full forecast including accumulation and timing out very soon either late tonight or sometime tomorrow. Stay tuned! - Brennen P.

Okay, who ordered the snow? Big fluffy flakes coming down in Bracebridge, Ontario this afternoon. Even starting to see some accumulation and wet slush on the ground. Are you seeing any snow today? Looks like a portion of Central and Eastern Ontario will see their first snowfall of the season today, but accumulation will be minor if any at all.... - Brennen P.

Storm Discussion & Exciting App News! (Fri, Oct 16, 2020) Watching for some strong wind gusts along Lake Huron with the storms moving in this afternoon and especially later this evening. There's a marginal (low) risk for some isolated damaging wind gusts with these storms so we'll be watching closely for isolated power outages and reports of limbs and perhaps some weak or dead trees could come down.... Questionable if the wind gusts will reach the severe threshold of 90km/h but they may come close and could cause a bit of wind damage. Huge thank you to those who send us stars, which are $0.01 each. We really appreciate your support and thank you to those who use and promote our free app InstantWeather! InstantWeatherApp.com Be safe folks! - Adam

VALID: 12:24AM - Monday, October 26, 2020 Do I see blue on the radar? Yes, it looks like flurries are occurring throughout parts of Northern Muskoka into the Algonquin Park area tonight. Also seeing some scattered flurries around the higher elevations through Orangeville and Chatsworth.... Not expecting much in regards to accumulation but don’t be surprised if you wake up with a dusting of s*** on your yard in the morning. Even into parts of Eastern Ontario and maybe the Ottawa region! - Brennen P.

Many have been asking us on when the wind storm will end. The good news is that for most regions the worst is behind us - this is except for the Kingston and Prince Edward County area which are just seeing the winds pick up. Damaging wind gusts occasionally reaching 85-100km/h inland and 100-120km/h along the shorelines will continue for several more hours throughout Southern Ontario. We’ll begin to see the winds ease around midnight for most areas. Although strong winds wil...l linger into Monday morning ranging from 60-80km/h (areas along the shoreline may still see a few 90km/h gusts). It will finally end by sunrise tomorrow morning. We hope you all are staying safe this evening! - Brennen P.

INCREDIBLE Video of What Appears to Be a Tornado From Thornbury, Ontario During Friday’s Storm: Video of what appears to be a tornado, filmed by Kim H.G. from Thornbury as it moved northeast over Georgian Bay on Friday, Oct 23, 2020. In our option, this appears to be a tornado based on the rotating wall cloud above, the trailing rear-inflow jet or ghost train, the strong rotation evident on radar, and the fact that #Thornbury residents have reported significant damage from ...this storm. Also, if you turn up the volume, there’s quite the howl. This is simply our opinion and thankfully, the NTP and Environment Canada are currently investigating the damage and we’ll let you know what the results of their survey are ASAP.
