Yesterday our techs Owen and Kevin assisted the Brant County SPCA on a bird rescue in #Brantford. Story below.

Starlings in your vent? Baby birds hatched already? No problem!!! We remove the baby birds humanely out of the vent (as well as the nesting material) and place them in a temporary customized bird house so they can safely grow up and fledge. This momma didn’t want to cooperate yesterday for our tech Alex, But in the end Alex was able to get the baby and the rest of her siblings from under a deck in #Guelph. We place the babies in our baby box for momma to retrieve after we leave. We seal the deck while putting a one way door so mom can come out and immediately be reunited with her kitts. Have you ever seen a CICADA WASP? This is actually a #rare find. Cicada Wasps are HUGE in comparison to a normal wasp. These big guys burrow in sand. (Many individuals burrows were found) They actively hunt Cicadas and bring them back to their nest. I witnessed these guys in action (while on another service call) and thought I’d share the #video of the #cicadawasp hunting and bringing back its prey. Don’t leave your #garagedoors open!!! This #kitchener #ontario customer called us as he unknowingly shut his garage door at night with a #skunk inside. The next day they came out to find the garage door weather stripping was ripped to bits as a #skunk was locked in overnight. While driving to and from appointments we often see other wildlife crossing roads. In this case we had a painted turtle with some leeches on the shell. It’s baby #bat season right now and we came across a unique situation in Troy On last week. Our customer was hearing sounds in their old wood burning fireplace. We arrived to open it up to find 2 adult (mom) #bats with 3 baby bats in the bottom. This tells us this was a thriving maternal colony. As the babies grow older they are like toddlers and crawl around and get in trouble. In this case they were living up high inside the chimney brick. The babies started crawling ...around and fell down the metal liner. The mom bats could hear their distress calls and came down looking for them. The problem was they couldn’t get back up. We were called, and we were able to rescue the 2 mothers and three babies. We placed them outside on a tree where momma bat immediately started hugging her babies. It’s important to know this time of year #bat evictions must wait until August to start evictions from homes to ensure not to separate the moms from babies before the babies are mature enough to fly.
